The insurance guy said he was using Glass's Guide to come up with a value for my Kombi but when I look on there I can't find any like mine! How can they come up with a price from there?

It seems to me that many "car guides" often run on the assumption of continuous value depreciation for all second-hand cars - which of course ignores the rise in replacement cost of kombis.  Several people have unfortunately discovered that their insurance company valuation is not realistic... Sad an important consideration when comparing insurance options.  "Replacement value" should mean the real cost of buying a kombi entirely equivalent to the original (not the price paid!).

Good luck Michelle! I hope you are able to convince the company of the real value...

Michelle you must be devastated, I know I would be if 'Kevin' was stolen.   Good luck with the insurance.

What has been Police reaction to the theft? Were they surprised or do they think the usual WA car thieves have gone upmarket?

You should tell them that Kombi owners are everywhere and looking.

Back in the good old days you could have phoned Swan Taxis and courier firms like Courier Australia and there would be 1500 extra sets of eyes.

We use Swan at work and are one of their priority customers, I'll pass the details onto the taxi drivers tomorrow night, it's worth a shot.  I'll print out a little flyer.

The police were nice enough when I reported it but slightly amused - "Oh, it's not likely to be picked up for speeding" etc.  I keep thinking that I should call and ask what's being done but I've been told that it would be pointless and that they will let me know when they find it. The taxi idea was suggested to me by a work mate but I didn't really know how to go about it. Thank you Diddlie Smile I just can't get over what a fantastic network you guys have - it's very touching to know you all care. If I get my old friend back I'll certainly bring her along to Alfred's one Wednesday to meet you all and thank you in person.

Michelle,
First sorry for the loss of our Kombi. Now on to insurance business. I can't say I'm familiar with your insurance regs in Austrasilia but here in the US you can go around and find " like" vehicles and get comparable prices to furnish your insurance company. Remember the adjuster works for the insurance company and not for you so you have the burden of sticking up for yourself. Here you don't have to accept the first offer if you feel it's unjust, the best thing to do is print out as many ads with Like Buses and get on VZI the samba, and any other VW source for price quotes and boombard the insurance co. with all of these quotes to get a fair replacement cost for your Bus. Or just go out and find a sutibale bus and tell the insurance co. that one will replace mine. Good luck and Best wishes,
Britt
