i bet the one on discovery channel cost about £3.50 was 100% complete and totally rust free.
i hope you got you big cheque book, prices of splits in Oz have gone up alot, then theres the cost of shipping, which will be about £1500 from Fremantle to Southampton.
i suggest you buy a copy of volksworld magazine or van and camper mag.
it will be a cheaper easier method of gettin a split
have a look on e-bay.au and see what you ££ gets you. there are about au$2 to £1, so conversion is easy!
just one other thing, to find this site you must have been looking quite hard, i guess you know that splits are not cheap, but there might be a gullable ozzy who doesnt know what he's got uh? _________________ you only need 2 things in life, duck tape and WD40. if it moves and shouldn't - use the duck tape, if it doesn't move and should- use the WD40.

while you are at it why not post on there as well, they will "welcome" you with open arms.
i suggest looking at the thread "why are splits going o/s?" before you register. cheers jon _________________ you only need 2 things in life, duck tape and WD40. if it moves and shouldn't - use the duck tape, if it doesn't move and should- use the WD40.

Hi Andre,
Welcome to the KK- BrianK is very helpful to KK and all VW owners.
As VWjon says Splitties are getting expensive here as well but some can still be bought at sensible prices. There are also many that maybe look good but will need major resto. Though we don't have the rust problems of the UK you can still get rust in Australia.
Many people are against shipping out of Australia but they don't know we still import more classic cars from UK than we ship out.
If you look at our Splittie Section you will see lots of nice splitties and quite a few are from UK.
VWjon's recommendation to follow Volksworld ads and also VZi website in
UK will probably help in finding the right one.

Whilst there are a lot of Aussies that will speak up and be very vocal about splitties being exported I wouldn't let that scare you off.
The reality is there are very few people around that feel that passionate about it that they would sell their Kombi for a lower price to someone else just to keep it in Oz.
However, in my opinion because it is now getting pretty expensive to buy a split in Oz and the pound doesn't buy as many Aussie $ as it once did, it would not be such a bargain buying an Aussie split as it once was.
US Splits (and bays too) are a lot cheaper in relative terms than Aussie ones and there are a few Aussies now looking at importing them into Oz from the US (the US $ has been dropping too)
I do think VWJon's advice about the adds in the back of Volksworld Magazine and Camper and Bus Magazine was probably the best though.
All the main guys that import into UK advertise there and you can also choose from US Kombi's too.
Personally, I would be more comfortable buying a split that someone else has already found and imported into the UK.
Sure it will cost a little more but you can check it out before you buy and avoid all the hassles of freight and cost blowouts.
Be careful of the splits that are being imported into the UK already restored or partially restored.
Some of them are being bogged up in Indonesia and look pretty good on top (very good actually) but are a real mess underneath and will pretty quickly become a nightmare.
On a final note, never forget the golden rule when buying a Splitty is that they rust from the inside.
That means, by the time it rusts on the outside you already have serious problems on the inside (inner sills etc.).
I can't blame you for wanting a splitty, they are very cool and easy to get hooked on.
Good luck in your search. _________________ Kinga |

The shipping from any major Australian port is approx $AUD2950 or £1500
This is to Felixstowe or Tilbury in 20'container.

That's not bad, it cost us over 3000 pounds to get our 20' container out here. What you want to do is find a ping pong pomme going back and ask them to stick it in their container _________________ Di

my container should be in Oz about nov/dec time.
i dont know why but shipping to the uk is cheaper than shipping to Oz, u think it would be cheaper to ship to Oz cos its down hill all the way!! _________________ you only need 2 things in life, duck tape and WD40. if it moves and shouldn't - use the duck tape, if it doesn't move and should- use the WD40.

Shipping out of oz will always be cheaper than shipping into oz. Its always harder and more expensive coming into oz. The rules and regulations are more stricter and so are the costs, ie taxes etc.
