This is another interesting link as it show what can be done with VW transmissions and varied engines with commonsense applications.Has pics etc
While some criticise VW trannies saying the 3 rib is not as good as the 5-or 6 rib there is possibly far more 3 ribs handling big power than the 5-6 rib versions.
They are all basically the same and have been modified, converted etc for may many years.
The Hewland transmission famous in racing cars of all types including Formula 1 was originally a modified Beetle Box even before the synchro 002.The 1963 VW I raced at one stage had 3rd and 4th out of a 1954 Beetle as it did not have synchro on all gears.
mmmm...those 'CC' and 'CD' coded boxes would be handy...but like woz said, where are the letter codes?...... _________________ existentialism has no future
This is an old thread but thought you may be interested that I have been running a Lokka locking diff in the camper for the past 200,000 km. This included a round Australia trip a couple of years back, many other camping trips as well as a daily driver from Bungendore to Canberra. It has proven quite awesome with no ill effects. The gear box is a standard '82 four speed.
