Hi,
i have a 1600 4 spd manual from a 69 LL, the final drive ratio is far too short for my liking. I see that there are many differnet ratios out there, will any taller ratio crown and pinions fit my gearbox? I have dealt with changing ratios in banjo and salisbury typre diffs, but never a VW. can you even change the pinion gear or it is cast to the end of the main shaft?

I think 69-72 or original 1600 engined bus up to the last in Australia (1975)
transmission final drive can be fitted. Have even fitted 54 beetle final drive into 62.
This link will give you figures for change in ratios if you know original ratios-most manuals show these
