I won't be able to go to the Muresk event, but I've promised that the rocker cover race track will be there.
It's just over 2.4 meters long in two sections about 400mm wide. There is also a small folding ladder to support the middle. It's made of 10mm thick chip board so there's a bit of weight in it. I don't think it will go in a Kombi. so it will need a roof rack or a trailer to transport it.
Because this is a VW event, it will be free.
As far as specifications are concerned, I wrote out a long and complicated set, which was pretty well ignored at the 2007 DoVW and it didn't matter as we all had lots of fun.
Generally speaking, heavy ones seemed to do better, low, long and narrow was better. Wide and high spun sideways and got caught on the sides and anything poking out the sides caught and slowed the racer. Extra wheels on the sides, would help.
Remember there is only one rule. It must be an aircooled VW rocker cover.
Any number of wheels in any configuration is O.K. just make it go well or make it spectacularly useless and get lots of laughs.
CDs are too fragile and will break, hard drives are very strong and have a very good bearing in the middle, but they put the centre of gravity high.
Last year we held the race on grass, so the first to the end of the track was the winner.
I think that it would be better if the track could be set up where the racers can run along a floor or path to a finish line. Don't have a long overhang on the front as the racer needs to get off the track and then run along a the floor.
As you can see there is a lot to this.
It will be available on Friday evening or on Saturday morning until about 10 a.m..
Call me on 9342 8703 and I'll have it ready for you and I'll show you how to set it up.
