Hi everyone.
I,m looking for a bay in restored condition 2 litre pref.
Just as a very outside thought,I have a falcon 3 year old lpg ute that I would swap for a bay.
Otherwise I,m still looking for a nice restored Bay.
Great website guys.
Few lowlights have the 2 litre engines as the engine bays are not really large enough, having been designed for the smaller 1600 engine. The larger engine bay was introduced in 72, the only lowlight capable of easily fitting the larger engines... however 72s also have a similar rear end to the later bays (ie oblong rather than oval taillights).
I wouldn't get too hung up on hunting for a 2 litre - the difference in power from an 1800 isn't great, and age, condition etc is more important. If you can find a good condition 1800 (eg rebuilt), then it will probably be a better value choice.
You can buy an upright converstion for the type 4 motor (1700-2000) so it will bolt into an early bay or split. Sharpebuilt in Queensland do one that uses the doghouse cooler set up from the 71 model 1600cc kombi & beetles. If you want to do the upright conversion real well then check out the "DTM upright conversion" designed by www.aircooledtechnology.com.
Lots of good cooling and type 4 motor info on this site too.
