From the original books that we got with our 1979 Microbus the fuel injected engine was only fitted to the automatic. All manuals were carbies.
Then reading from Tuna's site, and checking against my paperwork, my manual bus is a CJ, which is the twin carbie engine with 70hp.
That then seems to me then that the GE was for autos, and the CJ was for manuals.

GE was hydraulic lifters and there is slight variations between US spec models and what we got in Australia and South Africa.
