I cannot comment either as this is a family forum - suffice to say that I strongly disapprove of these people. However as prices for Aussie kombis rise, the profit for exporting our kombis will surely decline and these businesses will eventually look at other sources (eg the US or Brazil)...

This guy has been copping a lot of heat in all the forums, here are my thoughts......
Well its Economics 101 guys, supply and demand.
Once the supply here thins out or the demand here increases, then it will no longer be viable to ship them away.
If this guy is selling them here now, instead of shipping them, then it looks like the Kombi market might have hit a tipping point.
The plus side is since the prices have gone up here it is now possible to have a car that is worth close to (or more if you do a lot of DIY) the cost of the resto and that's pretty cool.
Isn't it nice for a change to have a car that is going up in value?
I will say one thing about this guy though, having looked at the photos of the splits for sale on ebay, this guy is certainly telling it like it is.
His photos are very detailed and show all the rust.
There has been no bog overs or attempts to fool people as to the true condition of the vehicle, you get a realistic picture and can make up your mind.
We have all heard so many stories of people getting a scam bus full of bog, newspaper, chicken wire, paper mache, coke cans etc etc etc.
If this guy was really so dodgy and money hungry then wouldn't he have no problems doing a dodgy resto before he flipped them to increase his profits?
I wish more sellers on ebay had the integrity of this guy because at the moment, in my opinion, it is far too risky to by a vehicle sight unseen off ebay.
For all the people that want a splitty and are avoiding this guys sale "out of principle" I think you are being foolish (or don't really want a split).
This guy has 5 splits for sale atm so he must have put some hard work into finding them and he has the right to sell them for whatever "the market" will pay (see, it's Economics again)
I don't recall seeing anybody selling a splitty for less than market value just so they can have that warm fuzzy feeling (but if you are out there give me a call).
Anyway, that's my 5 cents worth

i see the other 's didn't reach his reserve.
why don't people just put the price they want.
but then again, the fella that had the 21 window RHD barny on ebay, woulndn't have thought he would get 200k for it. there i go again, answering my own question's. i agree with everything in your thread kinga.
maybe your right/flooded market elsewhere,oh well, sell 'em here.

I would have thought the guy was best served doing them one at a time and start from zero with a hidden reserve, let the excitement take hold.
The high prices are achieved when people don't know how long they will have to wait for the next one to come along, the panic sets in, gotta buy it.
I don't think this guy is silly so I wonder if this may be a forced sale for one reason or another.

these early buses he has, need a fair bit of metal work done to get them back. not everyone is a compitant body builder/metal fabricator. so i think that shrinks the market a bit. only if you have the ability to restore a bus yourself, would you tackle these. for somebody in the UK or elsewere,to import (about $6,500 AUD) to the UK,and then start restoring the bus, either yourself,or just throw mega bucks at it to get someone else to do it for you,is just not viable,or practable. so i think if it is not close to a jump in and drive senario for most people,it is just to hard. unless you have unlimited fund's.
we all know what it takes, and money spent to get a bus fully restored, back on the road. funny how people freek out at the price you or some else ask's for your bus,if you decide to sell. probably looking at spending 20k min, restoration on any of these buses. plus the purchase price, plus the shipping. looking at 30k to 40k ozzy bucks, all done and dusted in the UK. i reakon thats a turn of. probably why, there are so many left hookers ending up in the UK from the states.
see ya's - got a cramp!!
