Gabbo's Run

The plan is madeWe spent a few hours today trying to work out our trip over to wa. never done it before as we never took a pet with us.
Done the trip before, but not with a dog.
Day one leave the mount and stop over at port pirie, never stayed there before.
Day 2 leave there and next stop Eucla. i have stayed there and thats another story.
Day 3 stop over Coolgardie.
Day 4 pit stop is Warnbro and stay for 3 weeks
But any and all of this could change seeing as how we are taking the dog this trip.

We've taken my dog Maali on a few trips with us... we sit her up the back on the bed, where she can watch the world go by - she loves it (but she always travelled with me in my previous kombi as a pup, so basically grew up in them...) ... just make sure you stop regularly to walk the dog, and offer it some water.
And keep the schedule flexible (eg back-up campsites), in case of the unforeseen (both good and bad). It sounds like you will be stopping some interesting places...
Enjoy the trip Brian and Cathy

Are you coming in Ford or Bessie- we have usually stopped at Pt Augusta and Ceduna and then other side of border.
It makes trip less tiring by stopping every couple of hours to "service" dog -you get a break as well -though we have never been overland with one.

I forgot that you had already showed a picture of the Ford (=> not Bessie)... oh yeah, get a good harness to strap the dog in (so it doesn't fall forward under braking and get hurt...) ... dogs also appreciate an occasional part-wound window to smell the air, as well as the usual pat 'n' praise...
3 weeks is a good length trip away! Have fun!

thanks for your great suggestions WOZ. Have already put the shade sox on the back windows. I already bought a nice thing thing for her to sleep in. it takes up half ther back seat. so that should be good. Cathy has also bought a rug for her to sit on her knee and listen to a whole lot of screaming music.. Looks like heaps of meat loaf, follwed by J O K and a heap more of ol 55. then there could be a little of mr presley, oh and then my favorite. Mr Conway twitty. apart from that mob we have about another 60 CD.

When I drove from Sunny Coast QLD to P.earth I made a point of stopping to stretch my legs after each CD had finished. I was doing it on my own, and by the end of it my right knee was pretty sore from all that accelerating, I reckon I would have been a lot more sore if I'd not stopped so often. On the stretch from Adelaide to P.earth I drove 15 hrs on day one, 12 on day two and 13.5 on day three, phew it was full on. Lots of fun though. My only regret is not driving down to the Head of the Bight to see the whales. Apparently there were heaps on the day I went past, but I didn't think it was worth the detour just for me, I would have done it if I had a travel buddy to share the experience with.. Oh if only I'd done it anyway...
Whenever my phone came into range (there was no such thing as "superior network coverage" then) I would call a friend at random and ask them to pick a number between 1-50 and then top-left, top-right, bottom-left or bottom-right and that would determine the next CD I would listen to. I had one of those CD cases with 50 pages and 4 CDs to a page, it got a bit dull picking the tunes for myself AND talking to myself!!
I'd love to make the trip across the nully again one day, but never again on my own.

There is no difference in phone coverage- even CDMA did not go far out of major towns.

i like the lack of phone coverage. that way no one knows where you are. dont have to worry about calls every couple hours asking where are you know etc.
we done a dummy tent run this morning, there will be no one laughing at us whilst we are putting it up. 20 minutes it took, not bad for amatures.

I just got a phone call from Brian....
He left Mt Gambier at 4:35pm on Monday, and arrived in Port Augusta just after midnight... the next day, he drove 1800 kms to Norseman, and on Wednesday he was having a beer in Warnbro just after midday.....

Mmm - wish I had asked you to list fuel stops by km for our trip over there in Granny this year. I like to know how many Ks to the next fuel stop. I am so anal like that.

Cool - that's OK. A few jerrys on the roof rack and we'll be safe.
I wonder how long the RACV will take to get out to some of those more remote places along the way (seeing as I have the mechanical ability of a wet Twistie)

Aaah, now we eastern-staters know what Warren and Marg look like! - it is always good to put a face to a name....
Thanks for the pix Brian, it sounds like you had a great (but speedy!) trip...

Yep woz, always gr8 to put a face to the ones we talk with.
bessie had a note under her wiper blade when we got home. the name and number of someone wanting to talk about buying her. i tore it into tiny pieces. if he is serious he can contact me personally. after chatting with warren and marg, i now know the true value of bessie. well i always new it, but never thought about the rplacement cost. if he comes back i will give him my price and i think that will be the klast i hear.
i went out about 10 minutes after getting home to listen to the old girl run, but she would not give a yelp. i guess after 4 weeks of not startin. but i will jump sart the old girl in the morning. bessie that is, not cathy.
lady is glad to be back home, when i go out side, she runs and hides. i dont think she wants to go back to perth.
the young bloke has a dog, 2 simeess cats and a rabbit. she chased them all day every day, but got told off. i hope she remembers to chase the cats that come in our yard.
