The Kombi Gods have smiled

Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

I have been looking around for a little while dreaming of getting a kombi, no money, too expensive, over east I'm sure that you have all been through it. As fate would have it while waiting for someone to turn into their drive way a bone head not concentrating on the road decided to see if he could get the rear end of my car closer to the front and ran into the back of me. He succeeded and the back end of my santa fe was about 2 feet closer to the front of my car  Crying or Very sad

Insurance wrote it off and paid me a fair some of money  Razz . Spent the last few weeks seriously looking , racked up a few K's from port kennedy to Yanchep.. Found a 1976 bus.. needs work but look reasonable sound.

So for me the dream has become a reality, it may become a reality check once I find out how much work and cash it is going to cost me. Engine/trans, under body, steering in good condition. Body has some rust and needs a paint job and interior work out.. So I guess I am going to be busy for a few months..

I will try and get some photos.. before during and after.

you are doing a great job Big Bear, will be on the road in no time at all.

Aaaaah, now that looks like a good score....! - a little shabby looking, so the price is kept low, but solid and rust-free with heaps of potential...  great find!

Interesting wheels (and steering wheel)... I am looking forward to seeing the resto progress - good stuff! .. Oh, and congratulations! Smile

Rock n Roll bed is 90% done..

Those hinges can be a pain when they are new...

I think I may have a few measurements a little out... chair back not quite right.. still need to add brackets and fix top with bolts not screws...

Bigbears post has been moved to here as it shows how refurb/resto can be done very effectively.

Keep those posts coming Very Happy

Things have slowed right down with work on this .. it is a little frustrating.
Christmas was a big problem with nothing getting done.. After christmas everyone is busy again.

Had "Georgie" down at VW Auto Europe for the once over, CV joints need work, Engine leak.. may have to take the engine out.. a couple of other minor things to get adjusted.. No time to do it..

Sent her off to Jeff Mac's for some body work done.. rust in the roof, and floor all fixed, still need to get a new battery tray and fit it.

Back to VW Auto.. could be a couple more weeks as they are busy.

In the meantime I have picked up a 1978 Dual Cab.. everything is done on this and is now my daily drive.. I love cruising around in her, get a few curious looks.

Getting a new workshop built for "Georgie" and have decided to do as much of the restore myself. Then the only delays will be mine and I can beat myself up.

Off to night school, starting this week.. Automotive body repairs(welding), Shocked then automotive painting followed by an upholstery course.

It may take a little longer but I can then say I did it myself.  Wink  Shocked

I think it's awesome you're taking night school classes to learn these skills.
