Hi all, bus was painted by a friend of a friend who are trying to start up their own business, they are hiring a spray booth at the moment but are looking for their own place .Will post details in suppliers/repairers. the red was ok but i wanted to make sure everything was ok underneath and have always had these colours in mind, also the poptop is going back on so better to get it all done now.(thats what i told the wife anyway )
ps. dont know what happened with the photos, originally posted five but ony three have come through and are set out quite funny, cheers col

Mate In my opinion - Don't use either of them I have had the same greef in the past! It is often cheaper, quicker, and definately easier to deal with:
www.wolfsburgwest.com in California
Checkout their site, Their rubbers are top quality.

the bus is backHi jamie, i was just a little worried about import tax ,duties etc, can you shed any light, cheers col
|
BJ
|
It used to add a bit but hey as far as I am aware US & Australia have recently set up a free trade deal.
Yes if the vehicle is over 30 years old and its rubber it falls under a higher import tax....but the likes of BusStop etc would have had to pay these taxes too.
My bill was about $900AU altogether I ordered ALL the rubbers, seals, light rings, grab handle.
Jump on wolfsburgs' site and make a "wish list" - this way you get a total and then tomorrow call customs they should be able to give you a ball park figure.
** For new shiney nuts n bolts use the Metric Men in Ossy Park

Peter Arnoldi used to stock or get in very quickly West Coast Metric rubbers- they are virtually identical to original.

the bus is backhi all , wolfsburg west wins it, I dont think anyone in aus wants my dosh.emailed both companies and also phoned as a follow up still nothing,
Customs dont charge anything if the shipment is under 1000 dollars, this is the value of the goods and does not include shipping charge which is good. So just need to wait for bits now. Im like a kid waiting for christmas all the best col
|
BJ
|
Yeah good choice. I don't want to bag Aussie suppliers but they don't seem to have that customer focus.
I have been waiting for 1 Year now for centre caps from an Aussie Supplier got them from elsewhere,
Good news about customs...Wolfsburg packed and shipped my gear in a day, got email comfirmation with tracking number. About a week later I got a call from customs "What's all this then?" Then it got released in another day.
I am sure you will, but let us know the door to door time.
I predict Xmas day will be on 23rd May 2008.

the bus is backHi Jamie,
simple answer is no ,it is about an inch too high, but with some air out the tyre's then me the wife an nipper in it, it may just fit. Until the something a bit more permanent can be arranged. Dont want to go to low though as i like her as she is. Col

I was wondering how you would fit her in the the garage with the pop top installed too.
If your plan doesn't work you may need to get all your neighbours to pile in too.
|
Brookie

If you have internal clearance and door opening is problem you can usually get another 2" (50mm) by turning rectangular "stops" on roller door 90º and this allows door to sit a little higher.
We had same problem some years ago with our poptop at my sister in laws unit. My niece now parks her Sopru bay in same garage.

Col they are U shaped metal about 50-60mm long and 30-40mm wide and possibly 25mm deep- you turn them 90º tp pick up the extra.
Haven't got roller but will try and get photos for you.

the bus is backCheers everyone , i am well happy with the results. Although can't take credit for interior panels as kev made the colour choice of the grey panels, I just need to put the roof back on an she'll be a go'er again. On that note any advice on the straps that hold down the pop top would be appreciated. Did get some funny looks from the cops as i drove up wanneroo road with no roof, no side windows, but fair play they just kept on going . kombi karma at work maybe? cheers col..

With regards to your pop top - mine were held down with 4 leather straps which looked like minature belts.

It is a manifold for rear heating. It is actually an extra requested when the sale was made (M coded) - does anyone know the M code?
I believe bays had them as standard? can anyone correct/verify this comment

I have never seen one in a 2-seater ("kombi"), but perhaps they were used in microbuses/deluxes (similar to those plastic door channels)?

|
the bus is backYou guys are too good ,
I believe my bus did start life as a micro bus. there is an mb code next to the chassis number. i think from memory it is four digits long.
I have ordered some chrome spring loaded bonnet straps to hold down the roof. Fingers crossed they will be here for friday so i can fit them before sunday. cheers col
|
BJ
|
I beleive the code for rear heaters is M141 (good link here re M codes)

Cheers BJ but i cant figure out the numbers. The vehicles vin plate was damaged, so the only numbers i have are the chassis number and this mb2422 code which is stamped next to it. Any info from anyone would be great. cheers col
|
BJ
|
MB2422 could be the maximum weight (depaends on where it is stamped)
If this is the start of your VIN# (242 2)
You have a Type 2 Microbus Deluxe registerdd in 1962
Check this link out it might uncover more for you:
http://www.classcampers.com/Techn...id/1598/articleId/65/Default.aspx
what is your chassis number - You'll find this stamped to the left of your engine - just below fuel tank
Keep us posted, cheers

The first 3 digits of the VIN number translate to a 1967 Microbus.
- Still looking into the MB 2422 bit ?
|
colandjo
|
Cheers jamie, sort of worked out the first bits ,but as you say the mb2422 i cant see anywhere, i just assumed the mb was for micro bus, but someone in kombi land im sure will have the answer, col

Maybe "MB" is microbus, and "24" is the model code for deluxe or "22" for a microbus?
