It can be difficult to find a steering wheel lock that works with a kombi... older-style Club locks (also Club XL) are probably the best as they can be locked so they are wedged into the windscreen corner. I also turn it upside down to make it more difficult for the lock to be picked.

The problem with steering wheel locks is that they can be torn off the steering wheel by grabbing the handle in both hands and heaving.
That also ruins the steering wheel, but the thief doesn't care.
They are a good visual deterrent, but other means such as an imobiliser or a secret ignition cut out switch, must also be used to be sure.
I carry one in my car, on the floor under the passenger's feet as it is the only legal way that you can carry a club like weapon in a vehicle. All you need is to have the key for it on your key ring and the cops will not hassle you over having it, wheras if you had a truncheon or a baseball bat, without also having a catcher's mit and a ball, they can give you a hard time.
That model of steering wheel lock is not called The Club for nothing.
Don't get me wrong here. I'm not knocking them, but they do have limited effectiveness.

I agree, they are primarily a visual deterrent (hence the red colour) - any determined car thief will steal a kombi regardless, given enough time and opportunity. The aim really is to make them think it isn't worth the effort, compared to another vehicle...
Immobilisers have a good reputation and will certainly be something I consider later.
Times have changed - with my previous microbus (over a decade ago), I never even bothered locking the doors! The kombi was insured for $3k which at the time I considered "over-insurance" - I often joked that nobody was interested in stealing my car.
