Southern Weekender W.A.

Any of you guys interested in a trip south in late September? It's a long weekend 26-28 September but thinking maybe the following:
Friday 25th: Early trip down Albany highway to Albany. Wander around and maybe a dinner and movie Friday night. Or a get together with the local hotrodders down there for a cruise etc. Stay Albany Fri night.
Saturday 26th: More day tripping out to wind farm and around the bay in the morning. In the afternoon cruise via coastal beaches towards Walpole, do Valley of the Giants tree top walk and tree climb. Stay Sat night in Walpole.
Sunday 27th: Early Walpole up to Manjimup. For you classic motorbike fans there is a round of the Vintage motocross in town that day. See if Sam will let us crash at his hangar Sunday night.
Monday 28th: Head either straight back to Perth or go via the usual Margaret River route.

Weather should be nice about then Smile

I'll pencil that one in and confirm closer to the date.

Rohan and I could be good if we have a car to drive.  Dave is doing a stellar job on Stella.  If parts arrive in time, we will be there. If not, we may need to borrow a Single Cab  or karmann (hint hint Dave).

Hi Sneak-e,
Any plans as to where we may be overnighting?
We would love to go but we would be B&B it or on site van or chalet.
Ruby Dear is a is not a camper and we would prefer accomadation vs tenting. ( we're getting soft)
Let the thread know a rough plan.
Friday departure sounds good.
Thanks for the good idea.

Is everyone looking at leaving friday afternoon? Can you post up the earliest time you can leave. Does anyone else need to book accommodation? We are checking availability at Rose Gardens in Albany and Rest Point in Walpole. Can everyone just reconfirm if they are still planning on coming so that we can reserve the sites also does anyone need powered sites?

Thought Armadale would be they best meeting point i assume everyone is North of there. Does anyone know of a suitable spot along the highway, I know of the toilet stop on the left opposite the Pioneer park just after you turn off left in Armadale.

Dave & Tina
Scotia

we can leave any time on Friday, and Pioneer Park is good for us.  Just need confirmation of times etc.  We will be sleeping in the kombi so don't need a powered site, not sure if we will even get on a campsite with it being the start of the school holidays, we might just have to stop where we can!!  How many are going?
kkombii

Alan and Glenys are right to leave on Friday afternoon.
Armadale is good for us.
We will book an on site van or chalet.
Looking forward to a great time together.

On the Albany Highway, turning LEFT at Armadale.
This sounds good for me,

Now let's set a time for those who want to travel together,
I know this is not always possible because of work, distance  etc

Tina and Dave, What time is suitable for you?

For openers, how about 5.30 pm?

Those coming Please comment, either to join and drive together or to meet at Albany Happy Days Caravan Park along the South Coast Highway.

we're both off friday so can leave at anytime. i'd like to leave as early as possible but dont mind waiting til lunchtime if thats what everyone else can do. we'll be looking at a 5 hour drive so dont want to leave as late as 5pm.

If anyone else is coming can they please post up so we can confirm numbers. Alan has made bookings at Albany & Walpole but we need to confirm numbers with Manjimup in order to get a single night booking for accomodation.
Scotia

we are not working Friday either so would want to leave about lunch time too, or even earlier.   5pm is too late for us, don't want to be driving in the dark.
kkombii

I am going to finish work at mid day.
I work in Wangara so it will be about 2.00pm  before I am on my way.
We will make our own way down to Albany.
Meet you all at the caravan park.

We should all get each others mobile numbers.

kkombii

Thanks Jean for posting these fantastic photos.
The weekend was purr fect.
Not a hitch, and only rained on the last night.
Glenys and Alan were secure in the cabin, the others heard the heavy rain on their roof above.
Every stop was beautiful, especially the wind farm at Albany and the bridge at Denmark for our picnic lunch.
Fonty's Pool at Manjimup is rich in history and a beautiful camp site.
Thanks to the "new" owners, Kelly and Brendon, who are also past Kombi lovers (2 years in Europe) they are upgrading the park and facilities.

I encourage all to look out for the next run and join in.
There is just something special with getting together and having a great time and meeting new friends with a common interest.

Alan, Glenys and Ruby Dear
