http://www.volksconversions.com.au/Brakes.html these guys do em. i'm sure there a lots of other places that do as well, but this is the only one i can think of off the top of my head. probably a wise choice, something i want to do when i get a bit more coin. |

Mmmm, I'd be curious how much difference they actually make.... I remember reading somewhere that kombis do 60% of their braking at the front.... therefore, even if the rear discs are 25% more powerful than the drums, they would only improve overall braking performance by 10% (a figure that may be achieved through other methods, such as tyres, new pads and fluid, etc...) |

Some one told me that the front discs fit on the back, and later model fronts which are bigger fit on the front. So theoretically if you find some later model fronts then switch the rear ones you get discs all round still with good bias.
Could be a lie though, the guy who told me had lots of kombi parts but i didn't see his kombi |

Any good race shop can fit disc brakes on anything.
Bay discs are of Porsche design and you can fit early Porsche -up to say 80s -fairly easily. Same as rear end- rear driveshafts and CVs are interchangeable with various Porsche models-just have to check lengths. Many of the Splitties, Bays and T3s you see on Nurburgring are running 993 Porsche brakes , driveshafts etc. If you want to spend big $$$$ you could go to APs but you would also need 15" + wheels. On a Kombi rear discs would not have very much advantage unless you intend to make rapid stops from 100kmh +

Well I dunno about everyone else, as you may or may not know here in Brissy we just coped a massive storm that wiped out alot of the northern suburbs. I was driving through that, and even on the southside it was bucketing down. My car does not like slowing down in the wet, drum brakes are pathetic. A 10% increase in braking performance could equal a life. I would sure feel more confident with rear discs...
its up to you. Porsche brakes are an even better option if you are willing to pay, or willing to hunt around. |
