i collect fishing/angling books....ranging from 1560's (when the printing press was invented, i think) to the current time.......i have one written by john younger, a scottish cobbler, in the 1850's that paints a perfect picture of what real life was like is those days....truly illuminating Very Happy

if anyone wants a particular book, i can find or point in the right direction....of course if you know of any old books, particularly fly fishing, then let me know cos some are real hard to find Very Happy

just as a point of interest.....a 1st edition, 1653, of 'the compleat angler' sold at auction last year for £195000.....(thanks for the ALT codes Very Happy

I enjoy reading science books, particularly in the field of biology... today, Alice bought me a copy of The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. I have read several of his earlier books - The Selfish Gene, in particular, had a lasting impact on me (and motivated me to study genetics at university).

Other books that have inspired me include The Naked Ape and Peoplewatching by Desmond Morris, A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking, Genethics by David Suzuki, In The Blood by Steve Jones, and The Third Chimpanzee and Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond.

I'm currently reading Bad Dreams. Stories written by young people about other young peoples experience of being refugees....really, really sad.

Last night I also started Country by Tim Flannery...and when I want a challenge I go back to reading No Turning Back by Richard Ellis. It is a history of extinction and the theories based on the major four periods of extinction....lots about rocks and fossils.

Finished reading country (Tim Flannery, 2004) ..awesome book about the paleontology of marsupials, in particular kangaroos, and the modern nuisances of the animals...I know this sound geeky and boring but it is not...it is amazing.

One of the most memorable books I have read this year was Henry Renolds "Why weren't were told" brilliant narrative about white australian history and the barriers to discovering evidence of the black history.

Sorry for the multiple posts...but one last great book by Robert Larkins, a barrister in Australia, "Funeral rights: What the australian death care industry didn't want you to know".
Fasinating book which gives you a healthy curiousity into the traditions of funerals and the current industry.

Me i must admit are not a reader, Cathy is the reader and last week picked up another 100 odd books to fill some holes in the already cluttered house. They were all free and in near new condition.
