Need Help with Clutch

Hi. i just bought a 1979 kombi van and while i was driving her, she broke down but i dont know what the problem is, when she is turned off she works perfectely fine but as soon as you turn her on and the motor is running i cant put her into gear, clutch pussed in or just left out. I was just wondering if anyone has dealt with this sort of problem. Ive been told that there is a wingnut missing off of the clutch cable would this have anything to do with the problem?
Any feedback is very appreciated as i want to get her up and running as soon as possible.
Thankyou

Hey Kortnee, the clutch cable joins the gearbox on the passenger side and is adjusted by a wingnut.  Without the wingnut, the cable is unlikely to disengage the clutch plate, so you will need to replace it to get gears.

Also check the clutch cable (which runs under the kombi from the clutch pedal to the gearbox - the lost wingnut also suggests a broken/frayed cable.

It is actually possible to change gears without a clutch (as in the film Little Miss Sunshine) - but the wingnut is an easy fix!

Good luck! Smile

Hey Kortnee, where did you end up getting one from.  Post some piccies, can't help with the gear problem though, although mine needed a new bush for my second gear.

Hope you got the clutch sorted. If not and you push the pedal in and feel no resistance than you have either a broken clutch cable or missing wing nut or broken clutch arm/lever. Nice bus, cute cat. Cool
