most sought after behind Splitties

Why are the Lowlights more sought after than the later Bays with the 2L?
Brookie

Less were produced than any other Type 2. They were in production from very late in 1967 and finished in 1972.
Can't remember exact figures but should be a reference somewhere on here.
The low indicators and external front steps seem to appeal.

I no in England, pre 73 registered buses means free road tax, which means a saving of 180 quid a year....

But i think people just like the older style of buses and the rarity factor....

Wish they would drop the rego on Pre 73's here.

Part of the interest is due to rarity... splits are now too expensive for many, so the next oldest kombi is the 68-72. I personally think they look a little prettier than the later bays, with the long low-mounted indicators, rounded bumpers and side-steps... 68-71 also has oval taillights and curved air intakes which look great. I also like the little differences (the inner and outer doorlocks integrated with the handles, the petrol flap etc).
BJ

I personally love the lowlight front bumpers.  Also "walk through" and they're bigger than a Split inside.

I have a line on a late 67 Bay window Deluxe in OG paint. The owner is into Barndoors and will sell it to me when he takes his lowered suspension off of it ( I don't do lowered Busses, I off road too much).
Phat bus

Send your Lowlight Deluxe's over here. I'll take two right now!
Roadcow

I've never shipped to Austrailia but it costs me $4K per bus in a 40' container to get one to Ireland from Calif. Probably price them out of the picture down there. I think I can buy this 67 for about $2500.00.

Was $4k the cost to send the whole container or just to send one bus in a container?
Brookie

Be interesting to get quote.
A 20' containeris is $2950 to UK from Fremantle but nearly $5000 to westcoast of USA-  Los Angeles, San Francisco or Seattle.

I'd be keen to know if the West coast of US to Sydney was much cheaper. Could then truck them to WA. But maybe not once it's on the ship.

1 Bus in a container ( Holds 2 Busses) is $4000. all in to Dublin, Ireland. My total cost for a container with 2 busses and a stash of doors, bumpers and engines was $8300 last time. I'm sending over a 1967  Mustang Fastback to England in a shared container and it's costing me $1600  on this end which is $400 chaeper.

Thanks Roadcow, I get the idea now. The costs out weighs the whole exercise being worth while.
Roadcow

Yes it's expensive. Brookie 20' containers aren't worth the effort. 40' containers are only $500 more so it's well worth it if you have the product to fill them. Remember you pay on both ends also.

I think I am won over. I love the look of the '79 Microbus, but the lowlight DC wins hands-down on looks.

just a little update
the lowlites were from 68-72 and 71 was the start of the disc front and irs rear it  had the late rear lights and were only made in 71 and many have ben used as split doners  than scraped
but the sleeping beauty is the 72 another 1 year only with all the greatlooks of the lowlite but the later rear long light but the beauty is that they also have all the extra length to acvcomadte all engines 1600 -2liter without and  cuttung and these were also used as doners and the tip was there resting place
bloody shame
