I have whacked $10 on Littorio - my cousin (Steven King) is riding on it, and it looks well-prepared for the race...
I also put $5 on an 83.3% box trifecta (first three places, in any order) with Littorio, Zipping and Moatize, and $5 on a 20.8% flexi box trifecta with the three above plus Septimus.

I have backed the rank outsider Guyno, a WA horse. i have backed it at his 4 starts in vic, i also took master oreilly. I already got 2 wins and 2 seconds from 6 races. are in front already. woz i got the first race winner with steven the winning jock. good luck with your bets guys.

We spent $50 between us.... I also stuck a place bet on Zipping, to get my money back (he's come 4th the last 2 years).
Stevie hasn't won the Cup for 17 years - I think he is due for another, and has a good chance this year.
I also have a soft spot for Moatize - Bart Cummings has won 11 Melbourne Cups and Clare Lindop is an under-rated jockey. If he doesn't win this year, he will be a big chance next year.
Alice has picked Septimus to win, and has also bet on Alessandro Volta and Zipping for a place.
Good luck Brian and Cathy, and everyone else with a flutter on the races (or a sweep)... I hope you all have a fun afternoon!

What a finish!!! phenomenal race.... I thought Cummings was due, but picked the wrong horse.... and my other picks were way off the mark!
Well, I tend to alternate between picking accurately and bombing out.... I bombed out this year, so I expect to do well next year!

i gave up on barts horses this year. the best i could get was 4th on master oreilly.

I usually bet on most of the races.... but this year, I decided to put it all on the main race. Bad move.... not only did I lose the lot on a mug's race - but the rest of the races have little interest...
Alice has suddenly decided we are going to get a taxi to a pub in Brunswick and meet up with some friends....
Alice got an extension on her thesis, it is now due tomorrow.... but after a few beers in the sun today and plenty of writing still to do, I think she will be looking at an early rise.... She wants me to read all 17,000 words (thus far) and correct her grammar etc... after looking at a few paragraphs, I think I will also be getting up early.
We had beautiful weather in Melbourne today (and no doubt in Mt Gambier)... it's been a good day so far. I hope everyone else has also had fun!
