Meet Bessie! She's a 76...Hi, my name is Rob and this is Bessie! I've seen some really nice cars in this forum and wish to share my pictures with you all. I know very little about Kombis but am learning a lot more in a very small amount of time. Since i bought BESSIE (less than a week ago!!) I have cleaned her out, learn of her driving behavior, repair the drivers window mechanism, fixed a blower fan, working out the washer squirt (still need help with this one), gave her chrome front grill and shiny dome hub caps and many many more little niggly things! Next i'll refurb the inside ... hope to post it on here too one day! I'm also looking to replace the POP TOP CANVAS.... any ides where to get them? DIY? MATERIALS? any help will be much appreciated!! Cheers

Haha... cheers for that Yes, she's got a few tats on her!! Her last owner was a real.... I mean REAL hippy!!! and she was real nice. She shed tears as i drove Bessie away  all goood tho....
She needs a new batt, engine tune/service, brakes skimmed with new pads, transmission service and then LOTS of fun in the sun!! |

By the way Diddlie, Bessie was called Karma for the past 10 years by her owner until only end of last week!

Bought new carpets and sewed new seat covers for the rock and rolla ..... hhhmmmmmm that's a good name actually!! 'BESSIE the ROCK & ROLLA Kombi'!!! Yep! Anyways... back to the point... will paint the inside cupboard etc... willl post some pictures real soon... maybe tonight! take care guys and gals!!!

yeh man, AUTO!! All cos my wife can't drive manual! But so hard to find Auto in these busses!!
Ok... this is my day's work from i think 7 this morning- don't know cos i didn't even look at the clock after i woke up!!
I put new carpets, cupboards paint/new doors, refit rock & rolla with new upholstery..... was like a sauna today! Had the aircond inside but did nothing as i needed the door open! Got the job done with a bonus TAN!!!

Took her out this morning to Swap Meet at Melville.. there was a las (early 20's) there and had her baby blue poptop 75. Spoke to her briefly and told her bout this site.. hope to see her here soon!

Excellent! is there a few Lhasa Apsos in there?!?! That's what Woody and Buzz is! Wife says the're not goin in the bus til they have a bath!! They just have their coat trimmed and bath is next!! will post more pict there soon!

OK... Thursday morning i dropped off the Kombi but not until today i heard news about what needed to be done! Ran around the whole day getting various parts to get her back to form!
Once on the hoist... all was revealed! front discs needed skimming, front wheel bearings, rear boot, rear drum skimmed, new front pads, new rear shoes, new set of cylinder heads, new rocker cover gasket, new auto transmission under cover seal, new differential sump gasket, new push rod seals, new exhaust gaskets, new insulation foam, oils, brake fluid, auto fluid...... Hardest bit to get was the O ring seal for the caliper housing!! One caliper had only 1!!! so, i'll be getting 4 from the guys at 125 South St Freo! Thanks guys in advance! Hope she'll be out by mid week!

ok.. after spending close to a week (6 days), up on a hoist! Bessie finally came out with no more leaks (saw a drop of something under the dif pan, but nothing after some travels)!! Lets hope she stays that way for a bit!! Brakes are all re done- pads, shoes, skimming, seals, master cylinders, fluid etc....! Engine fully serviced including tappets, carbs, sparks, leads, contact points, seals, seals, seals and more seals and the all important fuel line!!! Diff seal and oil! Auto transmission service and seal... and on and on and CV boots... etc... anyways.. i knew that it had to be done.. but there's always a lil voice in your head saying that maybe..... just maybe that it wouldn't be that bad or expensive.... a that's the update of Bessie! Happy wife, happy life!!

thanks aaron! Bessie runs pretty good. Still marks her territory tho!! But discreetly! Maybe she still needs to be tuned (not too sure how a 2Lt motor performs)?!?!? if anyone can describe a properly tuned motor in WORDS, please do!! !
