LaptopAnyone running an Emachine G420 Laptop 17" by Acer- these were originally Gateway by Packard Bell and taken over by Acer.
Does anyone use a laptop as their main computer instead of PC?
Thanks

I also only use a laptop. I have 2, a MacBook and a Dell Inspiron. They are far more practical as I take one when traveling to keep in touch and also for the digital maps these days. I also use wireless broadband.

Thanks for feedback- we are on satellite broadband at present but looking to future.
Thought I would have to replace PC but that is now operating OK.
Laptop would be backup and there are lots of places it can be used when travelling if it has wireless.
When using at home due you use mouse and external keyboard?
Have older Dell latitude which has docking station and you can connect big screen, printers , scanners etc and just slide laptop out when mobile.
Fired it up last week when satellite was down and logged in on phone- still a little beauty though only 600Mhz

I use an external infared Mouse, I hate the laptop mouse. How do you like your satelite broadband? I was thinking of being more of a hermit and moving off grid and had looked into satelite but mucho expensive.

It is not bad -supposed to 100Mbps but checking shows around 512kbps download and 256+ upload.
Federal Govt paid for installation as we have had to put up with 31.2kbps for years.
We are years behind most countries with broadband-

Heck I only connect between 54 and 36 Mbps with my Comcast Cable Broadband! Yours must be lightning fast.

My wireless connection is running at what the computer says is 252 KBps. It is tons fast enough for me. I only browse the web and email. I don't download large music or movie files. i.e. no torrents.
I use an external Logitech wireless, laser mouse. Transmitter plugs in to a spare USB slot.

We have cable broadband on our desktop network at home, but I am thinking about getting one of those cheapish "netbook" computers ($300-$800) to stay in contact while on the road (esp for maps), along with wireless internet....
