Kombis at WA DoVW yesterdayYesterday we held the annual Shannon's Day of the Volkswagen. It was a good, well attended event.
One of the things that pleased me was to see the number of Kombis there. They out numbered every other kind of VW, even the Beetles.
NoH2O arrived in their usual convoy, which was impressive enough, but when I went to see them they were, as usual, well displayed and in some cases excellently restored or preserved. Thank you for being there again. You help to make the show what it is.
In fact, I gave the President's choice trophy to a blue and white Kombi with a chequer board front and unusual insulated windows. Well done. I like to see original ideas like that.
We held an impromtu rocker cover race which was a lot of fun. One of the fastest was a nicely presented Kombi.
Thank you all again.

It seems everybody enjoyed the DOVW and all reports and photos are great.
Perhaps we can hire/steal/borrow the Rocker Cover Racecourse?
Are roller bearings allowed as wheels?

Sure Brookie.
The rocker cover race course will be available for loan or rent.
You may borrow or rent it for the Toodyay event. I'll need to ask the committee what we should do.
I'll keep you posted.
Originally I made 4 sections, but no test racer ever made it to the end. It would be better to run it out onto a smooth floor and have a finish line a few meters on.
The school I volunteer at gave us the materials and I made it in the workshop. This Friday I'll make another one for them out of the remaining two sections.
I think I've started something here. The response from people about the rocker cover race has been very positive. Next year I hope we have at least 30 racers.
Any kind of wheel is acceptabe as long as it fits within the specifications I posted here earlier.

Hi Richard, the Rocker cover racing definately broke the day up, people really enjoyed this - I certainly did, the looks on the participants faces in the pictures demonstrate this too!!! It was a great addition to the day. I believe that other things to do on the day (other than view the vehicles on display) makes a good day even more enjoyable! We want more things like this.... Great day we all appreciate the amount of work that must go into an event like this so thanks very much to all those involved.
Thanks Jamie
PS You gave the Trophey to my bus, thanks again! - it was a shock that it didn't go to something original/standard, it's good to get recognition and good to see it go to something a bit different.... Cheers - The trophey went straight to the kombi/pool room! Really grateful

Thanks Jamie.
One of the few benefits of being the pres. is that I can show my biases. I have always liked splitties ever since I drove one on a holiday job with Hot Mix as a teenager.
Richard.
