Kombi-specific spray painting tips

I am getting ready to paint my bus at home. I’ve more or less been following this http://www.vgautopaints.com.au/acrlicrespray.htm. I am no longer going for the roller method mostly due to already having a good compressor and garage, and the limited colour choice, and the good condition of the bus - I think it would be the way to go if you had a lot of rust.

What I am asking for are kombi specific tips. I am going for a two tone, white over red (yeah, not pink any more). I’ve stripped the bus right down other than the dash (really don’t want to do all that electrical work, and I still drive it in and out of the garage for sanding/grinding), the lights (covers off easily, but how do you remove the actual light assembly) and the engine bay lid (can’t get the screw undone without stripping it out). I am using acrylic paint. The original paint is in good condition, body work is almost finished. Garage and compressor and spray gun and heater ready to go.

I’ve been talking to the body work guy at the local smash repairs. He had a lot of good tips beyond what I’ve read everywhere:
Do the edges first so that when you are making sure that they are good you don’t overspray the main body of paint (eg around lights and rain gutters)
Always keep the gun 90 degrees to the panel
Runs can be buffed out
Set up a raised platform to walk all the way around the kombi for doing the roof
For two tone, paint the bits first that are easiest to mask (I think that would be the main body?)
Mask off the two-tone line with that good blue tape

What have people done for painting the roof?
How much paint should I order?
How many coats of clear?
Colour sanding? I've read it as a part of creating a really good paint job, but with no details? P800? higher? What are you aiming for by colour sanding? Is it done to the finished paint only, or between coats? Drying time before colour sanding? Before the clear obviously…
How did you manage the really long panels around corners? From behind the driver’s door around the back to the sliding door…
How do you paint into the air intakes at the back? And then painting the outside without overspray? Or is it not that noticeable? Can you get some cardboard up there to cover it to avoid overspray?
How did you lay out the panels and doors?

I'll let someone else handle the quantities accurately but I think it is around 4 litres from swage line down and 2 litres for top using acrylic.

Colour sanding:
These show methods on clear coats and colour .
