Insuring your KombiHi, I wonder if anyone has had trouble insuring their kombi?
We just bought a 75 semicamper (no stove or fridge but cupboards, extra battery). The vintage car insurers said they don't do campers and the camper people said they don't insure cars >25 years old.
I was in no-man's land for a while until we got to the nitty gritty and the definition of a camper (for insurance purposes) seems to be the built-in gas and electricity points. I did manage to insure the van in the end (with Shannons) but I wonder if anyone else has had similar issues. Who have you guys used for insuring your vans/campers?

I think you will find that most use shannons.

Shannons have many Kombi campers insured all over Australia-you just have to persevere and ring back until you find someone knowledgeable.
Last year Shannons sent an e-mail to all Managers saying they do insure Kombi campers but it seems to take a while to filter through-they also have a turnover of tele staff.

We tried Shannon, and got similarly rebuffed - we probably should have tried again, but instead went to AAMI.

shannons, but you have to keep trying.. and get the right person. After about 4 tries I got onto Brendon or Brent at shannons.. all sorted..
RACWA do it but you need to go out for a valuation and vehicle check

I received first class attention from Shannons, (Chris) at Burswood, Perth.
I was handed brochures at Gin Gin British car Field Day in 2008.
I isurred my 1971 bay and changed my Ford and house policies over also.
Best deal around.
Very generous with no claim and discounts.
I can't say too much praise for them. Number one for me.

Just updated my insurances with Shannons and added in 73 Kombi for Fire, theft etc etc including while being transported on trailer. Everything except being driven on road as it is unregistered.
Discussed campers and their is no problem as all Kombis are now accepted as classic vehicles.
Amazing extra saving when you have more than one vehicle with them and/or home insurance.
Service was excellent.

Just as a follow-up on this topic... How would one under the age of 25 go about getting insurance. Shannons will not insure under 25 which is annoying. I dont want to pay redicullous amounts but I need to have insurance preferably full comp, agreed value etc. Can anyone recommend a flexible insurance company that idoes insure older cars?

Shannons will insure Under 25s and will probably require an excess of $400-have 3 cars insured with Shannons and they require excess of $400 for nominated drivers under 25.
The Kombi policy also shows it is a camper. Your parents could also insure it in their name and nominate you as an additional driver.
All T2 Kombis are classed by Shannons as classic vehicles.
It seems to take some time to get the right person at Shannons but keep trying.
