Gabbo's Run

I think i am a fool

i dont think it, i know i am. i answered a question a couple of days ago. i got a email  from my security centre. i was asked if i wanted my pc cleaned out. like a dickhead i said yes and paid 80 bucks.. they said they would clean my pc and make it faster. Well, they cleaned it and thats for shore. the only thing left is my email address and internet explorer. every thing else has gone. I asked if they could find the rest and they said find your recovery disc and strart again. so im thinking of trying to fix it, but i prolly be off linr for 6 months
Brookie

That doesn't sound too good- do you have a recovery disc?

Can you do a restore and set your computer back a couple of weeks?

Warren, i have my recovery discs, but too scared to do the recovery. i will lose that much stuff it aint funny. then again i dont have it to loose anyway.  Embarassed

brookie its already gone. i asked for help and was told to just find my recovery discs and put it back together.  Embarassed wont do that again. i go to start and all programs and all it shows is every thing empty. i try and find something and when i do i ask it to be sent to desk top. but it dont get there  dont know where it goes.

Hey Brian, I'm not sure I understand... you got an email from your security centre? Do you mean a window popped up?
Piratekombi

Brian, if you click on My Computer, then go to your C: drive (probably called Windows or similar) and then Program Files, do you see lots of directories/programs there?

Also, if you got to Start, Control Panel (if there is a tab there), then Add And Remove Programs, is there a list of the programs you should have?

If the programs are listed, then it is the links to them that have been lost (eg by clearing your registry, or deleting the icons from your Start Menu directory...).
Brookie

It would be unlikely that all progams have been removed.

You could try this.
Click on Start

            All Programs

            System Tools

            System Restore

You then have option of selecting date- choose date prior to your "clean up" that you know your computer was OK

Follow the prompts and you should get it all back- this does not change date and time on your computer.

AS Woz said if you can see progams listed they are all there.
It is almost impossible to clean a harddrive on line without a real hi tech program
