I'm a kombi driver again...

Just bought our family a 71 microbus deluxe. Original seats... original everything basically. Quite a score. Will take photos later and post later.
Her name is Brigit and she's baby blue... she's very lush.

Congratulations-that did not take long  Smile  and a Deluxe Lowlight as well!

Look forward to Pics

Welcome Bridget!

Well done!!! I love lowlights - and the 71 is a good year, with both oval taillights and disc-brakes - great score! Smile

Like everyone else, I look forward to some pics! Smile

Congratulations Kimba, from one '71 lowlite owner to another!!

BLOODY BRIGIT BROKE DOWN!!

Just conked out in peak hour traffic... she had been stalling whenever she was idling from Welshpool to South Perth but could be started again, then conked out next to the Windsor Hotel in South Perth and refused to start again. Liam left work a 1/2 hour early to come to our rescue. It's electrical. We bought a new battery from the servo near there, called Mike at Volkshop in O'Connor and asked him to leave a couple of alternator bushes out for us (it was almost closing time when she conked out). Liam has his head in the engine bay right now... will know for sure whether it's just the bushes or something more difficult soon.
I'm off to learn about alternators...

Oh before I do, on a better note, the previous owner got my address from the transfer papers and sent me his copy of How to Keep Your VW Alive by express post. How lovely Smile

Sounds a bit like fuel too, either fuel pump or vapour lock

I'm pretty pissed off now. The brain donors who put the very expensive anchor points in Brigit butchered her!!
They drilled through the fire wall and made a huge mess of it.
Didn't even bother to clean up the metal shavings from where they had drilled.
Cost me $375!!
My brother in law is possibly even more pissed than I am that they've butchered her, they wouldn't have done such a shonky job on a new car.
We'll be taking it back on Monday and they will be fixing it.
Are we able to make un-recommendations on the forum or is that not allowed?
kimba

ps the problem was that the battery had been sitting unused for too long and had "shat itself" (technical terminology) and there was a high resistance join between the voltage regulator and the generator.
They tightened the female side of the slide on spade connection and emery papered the connection part of it...?
I have so much to learn  Rolling Eyes

Kimba you sound a little upset Evil or Very Mad

Did they weld in "captive" nuts for the correct seat bolts which come with seat belt sets?

I  had this done last year for a Kombi and it cost me $90.

Yeah, I am upset...

No apparent welding, just drilling.
There is a plate of metal under the car and the anchor point is bolted in.
I really don't know. They aren't for seatbelts, they are for the child safety seats.
We were told they would put a "crab bar" in the back but instead they did it this way, which we agreed to as the last time we had it done it was very cheap and they didn't damage the firewall because they did it at the very back of the cargo area near the tailgate, not smack in the middle.
If we'd known it would only be $10 less than the crab bar was quoted and that they'd have done such a shocking job of it we wouldn't have bothered with them.
Phat bus

I have had this problem with general so called mechanics etc who work on all other types of vehicles and some how have been recommended to me. When I came to use them they just turned out to be butchers. It seems like that these mechanical places think Kombi owners should appreciate being treated as a sucker when they do a butchered up job on our Kombis  Evil or Very Mad
