A month ago I saw an ad in the local paper advertising a 1974 VW Automatic Kombi REGISTERED for a ridiculously reasonable price, it was as if the automotive gods were smiling down on me that day. I'd been hunting for a new car anyway - knowing a kombi was out of my price range didn't stop me dreaming of owning the car I'd wanted since I was about 10. I knew for that price it'd be a long journey before we got her shiney and pretty again but there would have had to be more rust than car for me to turn her down.
I just got her back from the mechanic, preparing her for RWC and now the fun can begin! My camera batteries are on charge but I'll upload photos very soon. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and hopefully picking up a few tips along the way. I'm already becoming more mechanically minded! I've fiddled with a few little things (reconnecting the stereo speakers, replacing fuses/globes etc, fixing the sliding door lock... like I said 'little things') and have plans to work on her over the long weekend - This from the girl who made her dad check oil and water on all previous vehicles!
Cheers,
Jess
