Hello from Calif. and N. Ireland

Hi,
My name is Britt Grannis and I live in Northern California and my wife is from Northern Ireland so we try to spend time both places. You have a wonderful site here and I found it through one of your members linking to a site I frequent in Ireland.
A little about me,
I'm 51 and have been into VW's for all but my first 16 years. You see my dad had a 1960 Porsche 356B Cabriolet and we really did lots in that car, including, autocross, rallye, concour, and take multi state family vacations. Then when I got old enough to drive I couldn't afford a Porsche so I bought a 1968 Triumph Tr-250 which was in between the Tr-4 and Tr-6 here in the states. After my British car phase I needed something to haul around our 6 kids so VW campers were the obvious choice. Laughing
I've owned several and am a bit of a collector ( pack rat) and currently there are 21 VW's in our  back, side, and front yard. The most famous is Roadcow, a 71 Westy witrh a Toyota 3Tc 1770cc engine and painted like a cow. I started with early bay Westys and now have a few Splittys also. I drive the Shasta Snow Trip and really to camp in my Busses.
Since my wife is Irish I am lucky to see and be a small part of the VW scene in the UK. I have a part interest in a small shop on the North Coast of Ireland with 2 other friends. It is just a place to work on our own projects and help out others with their projects too.
My partner and I are going to run a pair of VW's at Bonneyville Speed week in 2009 and are very excited about that prospect.
My interest in Austrailia goes way back and I'd really like to visit your country sometrime soon. My wife has a brother in Perth and I have a frient in Perth as well. One of my wife's sons has just moved to New Zealand as well. Some day I hope to visit and buy or rent a camper ( probably won't be able to afford the rental)  and do sme camping there ( I really like your camping pages! Cool )

Sorry this is so long but I'll include some pics of some of our busses. Oh by the way I also am a Trader ( on a very small scale)  just wanted to be up front and honest here.

1967 21 Window Splitty rescued and I drove on the SST this year, currently being stored here

Had a bit of excitement on the trip.

1962 kombi my current project want to paint it Ruby Red.

76 Westy awaiting paint.

1965 Kombi/Camper I restored for a customer/friend in Ireland.

1978 Rivera Camper.

Camping in the Sierras in 1965 Kombi now residing in Scotland.

74 Ghia Vert I'm rebuilding as a present for my dad in memory of his 356.

Roadtrip last year in Roadcow to Washington. Parked next to the "Shoe Tree"

Welcome to KK Britt- photos are great and hope you post some more.
Met some guys from Wendover many years ago and they always used to go to the Speed Trials. They even went back in the days of The City of Burbank and other homebuilt cars that shattered records.

What cars do you plan to run?

Thanks for the welcome.
We are going to run the Stock 36Hp class and I have a 64 Ghia and a 58 Rag Top Bug. We have 4 engines and one of the Better Formula V engine builders in Ireland on board to build engines for us. It's really exciting for us.

Hi Britt, and welcome.

Jeez, the Roadcow is something, isn't it?!  Fabulous pics.

You should definitely make a point of coming here - excellent place, people and a big Kombi scene. Smile
Roadcow

Thanks Kyznet! We are saving some pennys and really hoping to visit someday.
Another pic of Roadcow on the Wa. trip. Changing flat tire with no jack. Mad I had the wrong jack, it was an Audi Bilstien jack with a Round peg, wouldn't fit in the square hole... Duh!

What a nice and warm welcome. Thank you Brett. I just finished reading the Blog of the drive around Austrailia and really enjoyed it. Our youngest daughter ( 10 kids blended marriage) is leaving the house in 3 weeks making us empty nesters. I'd like to come to Austrailia in the next few months ( mostly because of the welcome I've recieved here ) and see if I can find and purchase a Camper. I work fairly fast and have a Brother-in-law in Perth. I think I need to contact him and see if I can secure storage for a Bus at his place. If that's the case I want to find out when there is a get together and try to be over for that then go for a drive and do some camping and catch some trout. Oh well that's the dream for now.

That would be great- no trouble organising a run/meet to fit in with your schedule.

Great to hear about your escapades. Bit of a worry the photo of the buckshot damage as it appears to be from the inside. Has it been to the Kentucky hills???
Bonniville sounds like fun. Have seen a photo of a split with monsterous mid mounted v8 and obviously seriously prept for speed run.  Then the eyes cast to salt flats and it all becomes very clear.
cheers
