Gullivers Travels

Some pics of Gulliver our 73 Sopru Poptop which has been waiting nearly 18 months for some TLC. Motor goes in next week so thought it was time for clean and tidy up.
Very light cutback with really worn 400 wet and dry.
Will be OK to move around but definite repaint coming up- will probably keep same colour which we think is "Bright Orange" with off white/cream to swage line.

LH Front door rubbed back

LH side

Front

Bed/seat hinges and seat belt anchorages and bar- factory fitting.

Right hand rear- carpark impact -badly repaired

Only major rust plus little in rear LH gutter for about 40cm

How not to put silicone in windscreen- clear is junk and creates rust-correct w/sceen sealer is black -if you have to use it.

Brookie

Engine in and running beautifully-
Gearshift is smoothest Kombi I have driven for years- must have had new bushes.

--------------------------------
VLKSWGN

So this will be the Brookie Kombi, does this mean you will be coming on all the trips/campout's we have?

Sweet as Brookie, it hardly needs any work, by the looks of things Cool

Steve
Brookie

That is the idea- will try to keep up with you guys but bed a lot earlier Haven't been Kombicamping for 3 years- have to fit interior and minor rust and paint first.
Wish someone would buy our Nissan Camper.

-----------------------------------
Diddlie

That's great news, glad it's all going to plan.  Maybe you should volunteer for grandchildren duty and advertise it whilst you are in Perth so people have easy access to it.  Either that or swap with your daughter and she can flog it for you  Surprised
66split

glad to hear you now have an up and running kombi. i'm sure you will be driving the tyres off it in no time Wink  see you on a run soon then Cool

Few months yet- can't get into paintshop for at least 6 weeks.

Will continue on inside gear at the moment and working on interior of 70 Poptop( ex New Bay) which should go to paintshop next week. Rubber moulding removed

66split

progress is progress Wink  look forward to pics with the '70 in fresh duco Cool
Brookie

Slowly goes the 70 poptop as we requested-have to keep costs down- be a few weeks more before paint

VLKSWGN

Good stuff, keepin my eye on this one! Cool
BJ

Lookin good Wink  Is Gary Gibbs doing this work?
Brookie

Yes- also dropped him off half a dozen flyers yesterday and he thinks he might come and camp with his caravan Smile at Muresk
Brookie

Gary Gibb got that lousy wog that wa going around but 70 poptop is ready for colour.

Gulliver now has a shelter to work on out side without moving cars out of garage. Put battery in today and fired up -first time for weeks.
Some interior cupboard in prime but will put floor in shortly than some more exterior work before paint-photos better than real life

Piratekombi

Well that looks pretty snug and dry - those posts also look pretty solid! Looks like it might be a good place to work on Gulliver....
Brookie

Little bit more

New cupboard benchtop and sink

New floor tiles

VLKSWGN

Now thats a quality lookin floor right there, good stuff Brookie!

When its finished, there no excuse not to come on a camping run Wink

Steve
Brookie

That is why it is getting done so we can get away again. Smile

----------------------
Brookie

Starting back on Gulliver slowly now GioVANni has gone home. Smile

Interior is nearly finished and ready to install- seats etc still to be done.
Now waiting in queue to get into paintshop
New German windscreen seal from Auto Europe
Bumpers etc off -tried new indicators

Piratekombi

Gee, Gulliver does look straight and rust-free.... I think he is going to scrub up quite well. Smile

(I love the chequered floor, BTW...)
Brookie

Gulliver went off to paintshop today at 7AM-didn't like starting  at 5C with
chokes not connected.

Gary has to prep minor rust and a few parking dings before paint prep so will be a few weeks .

---------------------------------------
Brookie

Had a look today and coming on well- bottom half nearly finished-delay in paint for top but should be finished to pick up towards end of next week.

All paints from 1st July have no lead etc and some base tints cannot be
manufactured so some colours will be limited or different.

Posted this way back so people could order paints early

We'd have to be the most regulated people on the planet! What happened to common sense? Who is going to go out and chew the paintwork on their car?

Keith
Diddlie

Nice, as orange as an orange  Laughing You've been tangoed.
WAY2COOL

Who is going to go out and chew the paintwork on their car?

Very nice Warren, nice and shiney. Smile
Piratekombi

Looks sensational!!! Smile Great job....
Brookie

After seeing all those nice mobile Kombis at German Car Day and having a bit of sun today we did some work on Gulliver- fitted table correctly, some edge trimming on cupboards, and cut panel for bed/seat base-got body curve right first time! We also fitted roobar & tyre carrier on the one day last week without rain.

Original style R & R bed sits in OK--will take a couple of pics shortly.

Here they are

Keith D

It's looking very good Warren!

Gabbo's Run

Love it guys, very nice indeed.
Brookie

Having a look at poptop camper on a farm tomorrow- motor was removed a few years ago for buggy and they don't know what year it is.
Will take some pics but ideally if any interior trim and seat/bed hinges and frame are original it will save some time and effort.
Kids have used it as playroom so could be total disaster

If it is a splitty I won't tell!!!
----------------------------
Gabbo's Run

Kombi law is Warren, you must tell.
Brookie

A few more pics-carpet in front over original rubber mat-will be velcroed

Another curtain pic

Front seats with new seat covers until we get better seats or retrimmed

Floor tiles again because we think they look good Smile

Brookie

Full curtains for front windows & windscreen installed

Jazzed up door trim

Brookie

Right hand door trim now installed-only trim to finish is sunvisors and slider

VLKSWGN

Thanks -have done a couple like this-even the Nissan Trakka.

Tiles from Bunnings-you need about 23 as you have to cut 4-5 to fit pattern on original Sopru timber floor.

------------
Amanda

That looks wicked Brookie! And I agree with the others the floor looks very cool.

Wont the front velour floor get dirty though? Or can that be removed so you just have the rubber mat there. Wouldnt want any footprints on it cause its just too clean  Cool

Thanks Amanda- the front is marine carpet from Bunnings and is held in place by velcro tabs- quick brush and sand etc is gone or we can pull it out quickly.
Roadcow

Just read the whole thread and must say very nice job Warren!
Brookie

Thanks Britt-proceeding very slowly at moment Sad

----------------
Brookie

After weeks of inactivity Marg and I finally managed to get seat/bed in with replica Sopru hinges.
Westy SO72 hinge and components now definitely for sale.

kkombii

Hi Brookie,
Well done, the finish is so professional, and remember your motto...
