All going well, I'll be investigating this a lot further myself, shortly....

The time is getting close for Woger to finally get his new paintjob!!! Smile

Rust-oleum paint saved my bacon last year.

I spent a good few months welding up the underneath of my 72 bay ready for our europeon tour, which included the once every four year 'Bad Camberg' show in germany and the first europeon 'Bugin'.

Our bay hadnt been on the road in over 10 years and the time scale i  allowed was never really long enough to carry out the work required.  The bay got structually welded up and mechanically made 'sweet as' but the paint was rushed a little.

Basically to get it MOT/rego it needed to look in fair condition and i only had a day to sort it out so i hand painted the bus with a roller in Rust-oleum paint.  I spent half a day with a Da sander and half a day with a roller.

People at vw shows in the uk still dont beleive that i hand painted our bay, but seriously it covers everything in one coat.

I will definitely use it again.

Me in the que at Dover with some very nice barndoors and a very happy girlfriend because not only was the bus ready but it looked pretty good aswell.

Sitting very very low i might add and Yes we did get stuck getting on the ferry.... Rolling Eyes

Peterbro

supplier of rustoleum

There is good news and not so good news.
Rustoleum can be purchased from a Victorian supplier for $60 per gallon plus freight. It is surplus and so discounted.
There is a pallet of tins available.

The not so good news is he only has 'navy grey'

However if enough people are prepared to firm order and wait (up to 4 months) then he can order it in from the US.

There may not be a full colour range, but it is tintable with the right tint type.

His telephone # is : 03 9761 7331.

Mmm, I will have to think on this... a gallon is 4 litres or so, right? How many gallons to, say, do a bay kombi? (I am sure it was in that other thread, two or three wasn't it?, I'll check tomorrow)....

Mmm, black would be easily tinted (thinking Woger)... I wonder about mauve or purple though (thinking Loona, the one we'd first try it on...).....

Pete and i spoke today we think 2 gallons would be good
with plenty to mess around with tinting
Im going to get 2 gallons and try to tint it blue ish
see how it goes if no good the trailer will have a new paint job
and anything else that stands still long enough

I was just reading this article about restoring a vehicle in grey paint - and noticed that the owner had used a Rustoleum rattle-can enamel....

I'll give the phone number a couple of posts back a ring, see if he still has stock and if I can drop in.... grey has really grown on me as a Woger colour; if I am not happy with the tone, I could probably tint it to a different shade.
Peterbro

Have received my order and it is a darkish grey but I figure with a blue tint would get to an interesting bluish-grey. The tint needs to be compatible with alkyd enamel, so the little pots (an oz) of modeller's paint can be used.

At $66 per US gallon it would be worth doing the underside of the vehicle if nothing else or even perfecting the technique of rolling it on.
Piratekombi

Mmmm, dark grey sounds interesting... (I am thinking a "ship" theme). It would be better anyway not to have to muck around with getting the tints right.

Is there a colour on the lid, or something? I would love to have something to paste into photobucket, to check ideas...
Piratekombi

Brookie sent me this... I really like the colour, and would be happy if it was sort of similar....

Peterbro

This is the grey you get

This is a photo of the tin and the shade of grey

Diddlie

pretty similar I'd say
Brookie

If you are going to roller you need brushable paint and country hardware stores and machinery dealers still carry this in Massey Ferguson grey & red, International and Case reds and yellows and John Deere green.
