Financial Crisis, Climate Change, Terrorism

How is this effecting your Kombi life-resto, holidays etc-are they causing hold up in plans or are you  just getting on with it Smile

It's affected me just a bit.

The WA mining industry boom is DEAD! DEAD! DEAD!

I was retrenched last week (along with many, many others) and am now RETIRED!!! I always said that when the mining boom ended, I'd go with it. And I have!!

My Kombi now has her steering all fixed like new (new drag link from Volkswest!) and Sylvia and I hope to be off over East as soon as the heat of summer is past - like three or four months time!! Whooopee!!!

Thats shocking news keith about your job.
On a brighter note, at least now you can get out and do what retiree nomads do.  Smile

Maybe you will drive by this area on your trip.  Laughing

not affected by it yet, but it is always in the back of our minds. Work not affected, infact sales nearly tipped a million this month where they are usually about 500K.   Lees companies sales have gone down 20% probably due to mining.  Adult industry has never been busier so maybe miners are spending all their rendundo before their wives get their hands on it!! (BTW I am not referring to a million dollars in the adult industry  Shocked )

Can you elaborate on "the adult industry"?
Got me curious...

On another note, we have had our best month for a long time in the industrial pump business.

No mater how bad it gets, people, young and old spend money on their cars, the young ones on hotting their up ride and the older on their precious restorations.

In other words, whinge for five minutes and get back on with it.  Laughing

It's a bit like when your pets are ill, no matter how skint you are, you always find the money for their vets bills!

Hey Brian,

My retirement is not shocking news. When I phoned my wife and told her that I had got the big "A" because the nickel project I was helping design for clients in the Congo, had been "postponed indefinitely", she said, Great! that's the only way you'd ever retire! She's probably right.

Anyway, I'm 65, so I've done my bit. Now I can get really serious about all my old cars, travelling around Oz in the Kombi and get stuck into model railways!!

I'm going into my second childhood!!! - Keith D

Well as you have often said if it wasn't for the boom you would be retired Smile
Now you and Sylvia will be able to take off when you want  and the Eastern States trip will be fantastic.

Good question. Essentially I work with government surplus and individual donor money. Both are drying up. Next two years should be interesting. Terrorism has deleted one country from my portfolio, another is getting pretty close. What was the other one? Ah yes, climate change. Not affecting me directly, but I do make a habit of only flying when strictly necessary (Im a big one for forums and teleconferencing). Still do well over 100k miles per year though, so when next you have wet feet from rising tides - sorry. My bad.

Love Keith D's attitude. 30 years and I'm right there with you mate.
