Engines, where to go?OK. Whos who in perth when it comes to engines/gearboxes. I believe ive got a 1300 single port motor in the rear of my bus not a 1500 as i was told when i bought (not that i gave a damn..it didnt work so is actually on the floor now!) but want to take the cc's up to 1770 something or the very least a twin port 1600!! So, Im going to probably need bigger crancases to start or can the 1300's be used and just have the crank and cases refurbed etc??. Any ideas where i could go? Is the VDub place in os park any good? Im quite capable of throwing one together, barrels upwards..its been a while since ive been into the meat and guts of one so would probably get the cases refurbed and built...and then build one from there with new cylinders etc!

Hi Mate, there's plenty of peeps in Perth to rebuild standard engines but performance you are limited, try;
Ozzy Park VeeDub centre
Kurt in Freo
Arnoldi Motors in North Perth
Mike in O'Connor
Sorry don't know all their business names, but others on here will and they'll have their numbers too...

I would suggest you look up our Recommended Parts & Repairers forum.
If their name is in there a member has used them and been happy.

I've heard that VeeDub centre in Ozzy Pk no longer does engine building ( I haven't checked this directly with them thou).
My 2109cc was built by Arnoldi 3 yrs ago and still has Commodore drivers wondering if I'm hooked on their towbar. He's only open Tues, Wed & Thurs nowadays.
Mike in O'Connor seem's good to deal with.

Spoke to John @ Vee Dub Centre today about this when I was gettting some parts.
They are still getting things sorted since moving back across the road.
The plan is that they will be able to build motors for the custom end of the market in the near future, but they are not set up for it at the moment.
Having seen and heard Phatbus' motor in action, I would definately recommend Peter Arnoldi.

If you can do a top end rebuild you can do a bottom end rebuild too.... I have all my engine balancing done by Southside and my minor headwork done by Harris Engines (my HiPo head work is done by a mate in Woolongong)... Then.... If you stick with a stock stroke, you can build a stout little engine without too many problems.... Just do your homework!
As for getting other peeps to do it done.... I would say Pete at Arnoldi Motors in North Perth, Mick at Volkshop in O'Connor or Kurt at VDub Repairs and Spare in Freo would be your best effort.... Personally I'd go the latter if I was to pay someone to do it.... He's not the cheapest, but he is meticulous!
