Driving you Kombi

This also applies to all vehicles if you like to look after them.

In discussion on another Forum on European cars a question was raised.
People warm up their engines to correct operating temp and then roar off without any thought fo gearbox , diff, wheel bearings etc.
These can be damaged just as quickly as an engine and can also be just as expensive to repair.
Most European cars used to have a message in drivers manual to warm up transmission, etc before giving it the boot Very Happy

Now with throwaway cars who cares Rolling Eyes

We were lucky enough to get the original books with our bus, and the Instruction manual says to not sit around to warm up the engine, but rather to drive it 'moderately'. However, when the temperature is below freezing it is 'not unkind' to permit a fast idle for approx 30 seconds before driving on.

I agree, I have read manuals for a lot of cars that say don't sit there warming up, start it and drive moderately until oil is up to temp.

They say that until the oil gets to temp it isn't able to lubricate the motor properly, if you just sit there it will take longer to get to temp.

I know it has nothing to do with warming up - but this is what I thought of when I read the thread title.

We're doing around 90 km/h somewhere between Melbourne and Gundagai (can't tell from the background - it all looked much the same till we were north of Gundagai)
