Island Bend
View from the campsite we used. There are plenty of campsites in the area. I didn't camp near the river as the watere does rise quickly across the river flat. There are no facilities at the river camp sites but near the old airfield about 1 km from the river there is a campsite with firepits and pit toilets. Cost is currently $16.00 per night per vehicle or $190.00 for a season pass. To get to the river sites follow the dirt track on the immediate right hand side of the airfield as you arrive at Island Bend.

Berembed Wier
Berembed Weir is on the old Narranderra Road which is accessed by turning right after crossing the Murrumbidgee River heading from Wagga to Junee/Temora on the main highway. Follow the road towards Narranderra and the signs to Berembed Weir. Note that the weir is closer to Narranderra than Wagga. When arriving at the weir and picnic area turn right through a gate on to the reserve. It is free, on the river with no facilities. There are toilets in the picnic area.

Charleyong (Stuart Crossing)
Great for kids though no facilities. A large sand bar runs a few hundred meters along the Shoalhaven River. The water is shallow and great for cooling off on a hot day. It is free. The turnoff for the site is located about 20 km from Braidwood on the Nerriga/Nowra road. The signpost reads Tarago which implies that the site can be accessed from Tarago. The road in from Tarago is generally a little bit rougher and more difficult to find your way for the first time.

Childowlah
The turnoff to the camping area is just South of Bookum on the Hume Highway. Travelling South you will see a sign to the left that says Childowlah Road. Follow that road for about 20 km with the last 5 on dirt. At one stage you will pass a homestead and travel between the homestead and their shed. This is correct. It just gives you a strange feeling.
After you pass the homestead you will cross a creek and climb slightly to a cattle grid into a property. The camping area is on that property under some trees near the river. Last time I was out there the sign indicating that camping is permitted had been removed and the property was for sale. Whether it will be the same in the future is anyones guess. I camped there and there was no issue.
There is a second camping are all be it a lot smaller to the right just before you get to the grid into the property where camping is permitted. The track to the right leads down to the river where there is enough space for about five seperate camps. There are no facilities and no fees apply.

Billy Graces Reserve
The reserve is situated just past Wee Jasper which is accessed from Yass. Once at Wee Jasper turn left at the T junction in the town and then left at the T junction shown on the map. The reserve is on the left just after the second T junction. The reserve has hot showers, a children's playground, access to the Goodradigbee River for a bit of fishing or cooling off and pretty good camping. Fees do apply and campfires are not permitted in the bushfire period.

Mimosa Rocks National Park - Picnic Point
Click to see full size image
Mimosa Rocks National Park extends from Bermagui, on the far south coast of New South Wales, to Tathra.
There are a number of campsites available in the Park, which are very popular during the Summer holiday season but practically deserted out of season.
Facilities are very basic and you must take your own water. A pit toilet is available. Firewood, for the fireplaces, is provided by the NPWS.

Three Mile Dam
Three Mile Dam is located on the road between Kiandra (on the Snowy Moutains Highway) and Cabramurra. Facilities are simple with pit toilets provided. Great place to explore the old gold diggings of Kiandra and fish for trout. There are no costs. Bring your own firewood but I found plenty left by other campers on the recent visit.

Weddin Mountains
This campsite is free and is one of the best that I use. There is a gas fired BBQ in a shelter, pit toilets and every campsite is individual with table and chairs, fire pit and wood fired BBQ. Wood is available from the wood pile up the hill at the back of the camping area. It is excellent.

Edward River
This reserve is located 35K East of Moulamein on the Moulamein / Deniliquin road. It is a great place to overnight or stay for a few days. I suspect the fishing is great as I caught a Murray Cod while I was setting up camp. No fees apply. Some khaki weed was present so may not be the best place for young children. There are no facilities.

Bombay Reserve
This reserve is located about 8km from Braidwood. Facilities include picnic tables, wood fired BBQs and pit toilet. The camping site is reasonably level. No fees apply. Water can be obtained from the Shaolhaven River but there is no drinking water available. Wood is scarce so my advice is bring your own. Of special note is the bay from Victoria that just happened to visit and camp with us on the first night.
