Mustard Man

So are we actually going into the Festival?  Or just going down for the street party etc?  As in do we need tickets?

Also, this aircraft hanger?  Is that where were camping?  Shall i bring the tent, or try and set up the van with a bed?

Hmmm, not had any problems yet mind!!  Maybe i'll do an oil change before the trip and some tuneup work!!!
G Mac

Ideas for a meeting place & time to get the Kombi Konvoy going??
(im Nth.of city in morley-no good)
Mustard Man

Im leederville, so i guess we find the most southerly person coming, and meet there, just off the freeway.

Presume were heading down the freeway to Bunbury and then across?

I'll PM you my number and we can have a chat about it if needs be.

Or, we can all have a chin wag about it at Alfreds on Wednesday if we meet up there?
Mustard Man

Also,

So the plan is to head down early Sat am, and then back sunday evening? Or Monday?

For tune up, im thinking:
Oil change
Tappet check and adjustment
Timing adjustment
Make sure the enine bay is fully sealed etc.

Can ya think of anything else im missing there?
G Mac

Down saturday,back sunday,work monday Sad

Hi Guys,

Sorry all, I have been away from the computer and been a a bit snowed under.

A couple of urgent matters (family matters-nothing life or death) have come up that have taken some time so I may (I said MAY) not be able to come.  However, I am trying to get them out of the way to be able to make it.  Sam, I will gladly take up the offer of the beds again and we will bring the sleeping bags.

Brian cannot make it, he is on a photo shoot.  Shame!

As a result of the family issues, I have not been able to get Stella prepared ie. tune up etc...  Can anyone help me with that as I am a total clutz in the engine department.  I can make myself available any evening.  I was hoping to make the old girl a bit more driver friendly.  Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for not getting back earlier.  Great to see the enthusiasm.

By the way, BJ, Dave and Pat, are you all still meeting up with us on Saturday? Are you going to stay and come back with us Sunday?

Hooman
G Mac

G'day Hooman
Hope all is well family wise
What is stella doing to be not so driver friendly & is she reliable ?
Mustard Mans longest trip so far is 40k so it will be a wait and see
what happens type of cruise .....  no hurry
         .........graham
Mustard Man

Hooman,

What sort of thing were you looking at doing on the engine?
Standard things are to set the timing, and tappets, maybe an oil change too.  All can be done in about 2 hours....probs less.  I've tools for this and can help if needed.

My engine is old and tired and makes some weird noises most the time, however, still goes and doens't get to hot!  I've just done the items above to here hoping that this will help with this trip, but at the same time, have noooo idea if it'll make it or blow up.   Rolling Eyes

What can ya do though?  I've RAC cover.  Very Happy

G Mac,

So who's gonna be there on Sat am in leederville then?  Just us two and hopefully Hooman?

We need CBs!  Laughing  small child in me coming out!
Hooman

Yeah, it's just the minor things.  A while ago, we drove to a friend's house.  We turned it off and when we tried to turn it on again, it wouldn't start.  So we had to push and jump start it and it was fine.

I had it tuned down in Fremantle last year and since then it stalls in second gear; say when you want to turn, you down shift to second and turn and it stalls in the middle of the road.  Almost killed me once with oncoming traffic.  The fellow also did my steering which still is loose and isn't perfect.  I only found out afterwards that it was the first time he had worked on a splitty steering.  Broke the steering wheel as well.  Not happy jan.

Clutch is noisy when depressed too.  I was told by Patrick that it is a simple fix??  Simple??? Kombi???  words that don't necessarily go will together.   Very Happy  Laughing

Looks like I am not coming, EH?

Hooman
G Mac

apart from what Mustard Man said above
can give it a go,thursday nite only for me ?

WOW!  What a great run/trip/overnighter/everything!!

Once again a wonderful trip to The Bridgetown Blues Festival.  At the end of it there were 4 Splits and 3 Bays (not counting Sam's Double Cab Bay and the beetle).

A great big thank you to Manji Sam for his AirPlane Hangar and his very generous hospitality.  Sam, you are truly a great host!

Graham, once again, thanks for your grounding advice. Dave, let's talk 'rust'.  Patrick, still interested in the 'trade'?   Richard, Bugger!! We spilled more oil than you!!   Jene (sp?) Love the Purple, but Auto?? Matt, tried to look into your bus while you were sleeping but that tint...

Rohan and I parted with the group early this morning and headed towards the coast while the others returned to Perth.  On the way we witnessed a truly amazing piece of Australian Rural Parchment (Wild Kangaroos, those funny Black and White Cows with the long fringes-Tina?? and much more beautiful rolling hills and dense forests).  How fortunate we are!!!
We stopped off at Cambray Cheese factory and met up with a fellow Kombi (well Caravelle Camper) who told us of a potential find; someone who is going to take his splitty to the 'tip'?!?!.  We'll let you know where that goes.

Many thanks to the guys and gals as usual who made our trip such a wonderful 'kombi' experience.

Rohan says hello.

Brian and Steve (and Jamie), we missed you in Manjimup.  Next year!

See you all at the DOVW WA.

Hooman (Some photos to follow hopefully!)
Phat bus

Hey Hooman, your welcome to have another look at my bus at DOVW. I'm all keen to join in on this one too. I must say your young boy Rohan reminds me of myself at his age in regards to his interest and attention to detail of splity's - except I was into both Holdens and VW's back then (I could name every model Holden and the yr of manufacture at the age of 9yrs).

I'd also would like to thank Manji Sam too. This was my first time at the hanger and his hospitality was fantastic.

Dave, my applogies if my convo Sat night about your T4 motor didn't make too much sense. I think the 2 Vodkas I had were made just a little too strong. I've since had a few other thoughts about your motor, speacially around the cooling fan / housing arrangement on yours. But I'll chat to you about that a bit later.

I'm also realising it's time to get the rust attended to in my bus and it'd be great to find a rust repairer who appreciates how much us VW nuts love our baby, or babies in some cases.

I lost the group leaving Manji and tried my best to catch up. But after  about 20mins I guessed everyone was behind me instead of in front, so I drop back to normal cruising speed. Chantel was spinning out that a kombi over takes everyone else instead of the other way around hehe. Yes the motor is not stock!

Count me in for next year Smile
Mustard Man

Hi all,

Yep, that was a great weekend.  Lots of new experiances for me.  First real road trip and convoy in Mustard, first journey over 45k, first time sleeping in the bus and it was a total success!  Not once did Mustard let me down!  I even didn't drip the most oil!!!

I love the kombi so much, half way back i pulled into take a rest for 10, (thanks Patrick for stopping to check i was ok)  Got the bean bag out, and had my self a snooze for 40 minutes, door open, nice breeze on me, life was good!  Only in a kombi hey!!

Sam, Huge thanks for giving us a home for the night, and for breakfast.  Can't wait to see your bus return, i think we're all eagerly anticipatiing it now!

Thanks everyone for great company and many good laughs.  Can't wait for the next adventure.

I'll post a bunch of photos in the Event bit!
G Mac

Thanks once again to Sam for his Hospitality & breakfast
     and all that attened
Allways good to catch up with you

& hope to see you all again at " DAY OF THE VOLKSWAGEN "

        .........GRAHAM.......
