Brazilian are left hand drive unfortunately- LHD Bay boxes are readily available.
It is possible that internals are the same but have not been able to get different part nos for internals.

They could have done- SA had its own VW plant and quite a few bodies or CKD units weresent to Australia when they were short of vehicles.
What year is yours and or Chassis No?

chassis 236110664  1966 model.
built in germany, exported as a RHD. i imported from jakarta indonesia. looks like someone has changed out the chassis mount rail,to accept this brazillian job. they did a good job of it,BUT, i am stuck with a crappy box.

could you not put a aussie spec rhd bay box in there? or are the bolt holes different? what about converting it back to an origional splittie box? dave.

the RHD bay box wouldnt work i dot think dave.different set up with the mounts and also the colum.
will be doing the king and link pins soon, aswell as the centre swing shaft.all these items have slop in them.
so i guess the process of elimination. sort these out,and see what play is left in the steering box, have a crack at adjusting out what play is there. i am not holding high hopes. not to sure if i can adapt the origonal box to the exsiting rail, rail width, mounting holes differ. i think i would have to source a piece of the mounting rail to suit the origonal box,cut out this rail, weld the other back in,and go from there.
OR, stuff it all,go buy a rack and pinion bolt in set up from creative engineering in the UK. $1600 AUD landed at your front door. would be nice to have zero slap/slack highly responsive steering in a kombie.

oh well,life goes on!!
