Bays are No1 by volume and when most speak of Kombis they are talking about Bays and we added Splittie and Wedgie section for those types and we probably have the strongest and best Splittie group in Australia.
Splitties are iconic and in original configuration no where as comfortable to drive though due to magic gearing like all Kombis they perform well.
Many of the restored Splitties run 68 Bay front ends or modified ones and different transmissions than original.
Wedgies are T3/T25 and we are just encouraging them to act like real Kombi people.

So Lowlights and Early Bays still doesn't fit my 1979 bay. I am not trying to be all "I want a section of my own" but I thought that this site would cover all the types of kombis - which I suppose then; does that include T4s and T5s as well?

The site is for all kombis of course, there is a lot of focus on splitties at the moment as we are realising how many theere actually are in Perth, I think BJ is going for a guiness book of records entry
It all seems fine to me but I've been using the site for a while now and have the feel of where everything gets posted but maybe newcomers would see the splittie, wedge and early bay bit and think where's the rest of the bays?

What is the reason to seperate the lowlights from the rest of the Bay Windows?
Mechanically they are very similar, yeah?
The engines are much the same until the introduction of the EFI 2L, right?
The interior had minor mids, but nothing significant...
What I picture is that if some has a Bay and is looking for info generally they would look for a section for it. Sure the Engine, Transmission and Body sections might be more helpful. But just for admiring other kombis like their own, to get ideas on colour scheme ideas, or how to retrim the interior, what mag wheels look good on a bay, should I lower it? people will turn to a Bay Window Section first up (if there is one)
I don't mean to be critical - I really like this forum and want to help it, to make it grow in functionality and popularity.

It started as a Kombi forum and the originators were mainly interested in Bays.
We were fortunate in having a Splittie group join and they do have different needs and info than bays.
The Lowlight section was started as there has been huge growth in those models, since KK started, due to relatively small volume produced
Lowlights still run 1600 motors which are entirely different to Type 4 motors-1700, 1800 and 2000cc which started in 1973.
The 1600 was also available to order up to early 1975 though most were 1974
We also have a section for Beetles, Type 3 and Buggies as well as T3/T25 to encourage those owners.
It is a happy forum and will stay that way by communication and suggestions from Members.
There is Kombi Talk and mechanical and body sections which cover all Kombis and the specific sections are for the models with those little differences.

yeah, it is a happy forum, and I feel a lot more confident in buying my 79 Bay knowing that the forum is here. I intend to make worthwhile contributions where I can.
I just wish you weren't all in WA. (Okay I realise that not everyone is in WA...)

WA has grown disproportionately to other States due to activity by a few active members.
Perhaps you could contact some in your area by PM and suggest a Coffee Meet or similar or just make post here under Events.
Our first Coffee Meet really jazzed things up.

I intend to get to the VW nationals in Fairfield this month(?). I will see how things go from there I think.
Actually, I will go make a post now about meeting people sometime, somewhere in Sydney.
