Another vw convertGday people
Only been into vw's coupla months and have a 63 Beetle that i'm stoked with (even won a trophy today!)
BUT! Having seen a couple of very cool bays at Adelaide Volksfest today,we've decided to get one in the new year.
I won't want a pristine one as i prefer the 'natural look' and lowered to buggery.
My budget will be up to around $4-5000 for a driver that won't win a "Who has the most rust" competition and is stock as a rock if possible
I want a splittie (doesnt everyone?) but asking around and seeing the prices, thats just not gunna happen till i win lotto, become a dealer or install a lot of wardrobes!
I look forward to having a look around here and no doubt asking some dumb questions before i put up a wanted ad.
Cheers,Lee

Welcome Lee! For your budget, you should be able to find a reasonable kombi although there is still likely to be a small amount of rust (as you would expect in most vehicles over 30 years old...) The "natural look" is growing in popularity, just do a search for "rat"...
Ask as many questions as you need, there are no such things as "dumb questions" as others may also have the same query... have fun, and good luck in your search - oh yeah, and I would also appreciate a quick pic of the 63 beetle!

Cheers guys,much appreciated
I didnt wanna use the term 'rat' coz some people get annoyed with that term, yet thats what it is and my beetle got a 2nd place trophy at Adelaide Volksfest yesterday (my first vw show ive been too)
Its a rat!!
Now,onto kombi's.I stumbled on a lowlight bay today that sitting on the side of the road in a backstreet (No,i'm not saying where it is in Adelaide! ) The body is great,no rust underneath, little bit on the roof but its really good overall.Body looks dead straight.
It looks like its been sitting there for a while so Ive posted a heap of notes on it and the surrounding houses to find out if i can grab it.
Interior is perfect, paint is faded but that doesnt bother me.
HOPING to get a phone call!
Heres my 63.Hope ya like it

Cheers Brookie.
If it wasnt for my missus raving on about a kombi yesterday at the show,i was happy with the beetle!
Then i had a bit more of an in depth look at the ones that were there and thought 'yep, thats for me!
She even said to me today that she would even consider selling her Magna to get a bay.Who am i to argue with that?
I drive a new Hiace everyday for work (contractor) and ive always liked vans for some weird reason.
As for the lowlight.I actually turned down the wrong street and there it was!
Hope thats a good sign

Your 63 looks great Lee.
We have two beetles (a 71 and a 59 project) on top of the 73 Bay, 74 SC, 75 donor, 76 SC project and the 79 Double Slider project.
Nothing wrong with extended the VW family ....... although sometimes it is hard to know when to stop!
Best of luck with the search for a kombi.
Cheers
