9th March York Motor Museum

We have organised with the York Motor Museum a special for Kombi Konnection and friends, a guided tour of museum by the Curator Peter Harbin.
Ex race driver, champion fencer and very knowledgable on almost any car.

If sufficient are interested the Museum will be closed to public while we are there.
Price is reduced to $5.00
This is Peter Brigg's original museum and there is some fantastic machinery and memorabilia of motor transport.
There is even a Tatra- rear engined and aircooled of course Smile
York is closer to Perth than Toodyay and a pleasant drive the oldest inland town in WA and also the most English in design and appearance.
If sufficient numbers morning tea etc can be organised in Museum or perhaps a barbecue on the river bank behind museum would be better.
York is WAs first inland town and has historic buildings, cafes, pubs etc.

Arrive York say 10.30 which means approx 9am from Perth

Meet ups can be organised at Midland, Mundaring or perhaps the Lakes.

Please let us know your thoughts
It is also on Avon River so our first Air Cooled on Avon
**** You don't have to bring a Kombi or VW-many including me are still working on resto , others are waiting for pros to finish theirs -so just turn up and talk Kombi and VW

Hi Brookie and all
Have had a couple of overnighters in York recently, so definitely keen to join in.

PS: Of late, have seen a few Kombis on the road that were at toodyay and VW day. I have waved madly, but probably lost in translation as i was driving my Mazda 3 and not in my Kombi! Off the road for now due to a dodgy clutch cable and brakes on The Dub.
BJ

I should be up able to make - I have been to York twice now but have been saving a visit into the Musuem for "next time"

It looks like it was worth the wait Wink
WAY2COOL

Sounds good We'll be there...Kim

Looking good at moment- around 16 counting couple/partners/pairs/whatever.

Don't forget the camera as there is some great locations around York for photos including park on river just at back of Museum where it is ideal for picnic lunch/morning/afternoon tea etc.

I guess meeting points etc can be noted as we get closer.

Westair

Only 14 days to go- perhaps some metro residents can suggest some meeting points for those who would like to convoy.

Remember you don't have to be in a Kombi and you can get ideas from those who do or just a good Kombi chat can help with your resto.

Well here we go again...I love these trips!

There are a few of us heading up on Saturday afternoon and staying at the York caravan park - All are welcome, so if you are interested we can rendezvous at mine in Sawyers Valley at 13:00?

Can you/can't you make it by 13:00 - Post up here.....

*****UPDATE*****

Spoke to Peter Harbin, Curator of Museum, this morning and he told us we could park in Musuem Car Park which is directly behind Museum.
There is also the Museum Garden adjoining this and we can use that for Lunch or if any have portable barbecue they are welcome to bring it along.

Also if your dog approves of you going to Museum they are also welcome. Very Happy

As an extra Peter drove an early bay from Instanbul to Bombay via Teheran , Afghanistan, Pakistan including coming over the Khyber Pass.

Should be a great day

I called the caravan park in York and told the to expect us again. They were as helpful and as friendly as ever.

Sorry you can't make it Kim but you have priorities right.
Perhaps a run to Fairbridge sometime for those that don't know Fairbridge or its history and contribution in many ways to WA.

We should be able to get there for 9am so see you at the servo.

Only two more sleeps Smile
Check the Gull Service Station as you come into York from Southern H'way from The Lakes. Fuel is quite often as cheap if not cheaper than Perth.
