They're making a film out of Bran Nue Dae?!! Cool... and with Geoffrey Rush (and Ernie Dingo)? Even better!! And with a kombi???!! It is definitely a must-see!!!! Very Happy
Brookie

Especially if it was Amanda's Kombi

Fingers crossed for her... the film will likely attract a large audience - her split might be seen around the world. Cool

"For years Jimmy Chi has been creating BRAN NUE DAE. It is the combination of his own experiences, his views of the world and the pooled talents of his friends who make up the Broome band Kuckles.

BRAN NUE DAE: THE MUSICAL is a story of an Aboriginal boy's flight home from the city of Perth to his homeland at Djaridjin (known to Europeans as Lombadina). His journey in search of identity, love and security takes us across the state in a blend of rock opera, road movie, comedy, song, dance and romance. The music derives from sources as disparate as traditional Aboriginal performance, blues, rock 'n' roll, Hollywood musicals and the rituals of the Roman Catholic Mass.

The film is structured around two main themes: the production of the musical and the life of Jimmy Chi. Both elements are interwoven with key participants, players in Jimmy's life and archival footage.

Jimmy grew up in Broome, a town in the remote north of Western Australia. He is part of a culturally diverse community which results from Broome's history as a thriving Pearling town. Jimmy was sent to a Catholic mission in Perth to complete his secondary schooling and from which he was eventually expelled. After a major car accident and several months in a psychiatric hospital he gave up his university studies, returned to Broome and devoted himself to music and writing songs.

Features Ernie Dingo, John Moore, Maroochy Barambah and Bob Faggetter."

"In 1990, the dynamic musical Bran Nue Dae by Jimmy Chi and the band Kuckles premiered to impressed audiences at the Festival of Perth, before touring the nation. Set in the far north-western Australian town of Broome, Bran Nue Dae used original music, humour, serious issues and irony to showcase a range of stories and issues relating to Aboriginality. "

Hi Guys,

Looks like Elsie (My kombi (not Bill Laughing)) is going to be in the movie.

She will be having an extreme hippy makeover, involving flowers, turtles, pelicans and ocean scenes. Should look pretty far out  Wink

There is only one issue with Elsie. She is a bit light round' the middle (wish I was to Laughing ) and missing a middle seat. I am hoping someone may be able to help me out as I need to purchase one as soon as possible. I am after a baywindow middle seat matching my rear one.

Thanks for your help.
Brookie

Congrats on your Kombi being chosen-I am sure someone will have a middle seat to sell or perhaps even loan during filming period.
Hope you negotiated a nice fee
Smile

Good work Amanda, you must pe stoked!

Hope you get it back in better condition than she leaves you in.  Or with more cash in the bank to make improvements.....

I am looking forward to seeing Elsie on the big screen!  And remember - movie stars expect good food (98 RON premium) and a regular polish....

Are you thinking of keeping the extreme makeover? Sounds interesting...

Good luck finding a middle seat.... how exciting! Cool
Mustard Man

Wow,

Thats brilliant......getting your kombi on the big screen and getting a make over on it.  Looking forward to the updates......

Would like to say thanks to my Dad, and to CarCraft Rockingham for all their help. All of this work was done about 4 days time, and it has turned out great. I hope they look after her!! Very Happy

I have been told who will be driving the bus in the film (a famous female Australian singer!) so start guessing!  Laughing

Cheers,

Christine Anu?
Diddlie

Kylie!!

She looks great Amanda, such a cool post in all the bad stuff going around at the mo.  Very Happy
Amanda

Kombi has only been gone since Friday and I am already missing it  Laughing

The singer is not Christine Anu (was my first guess to) or Kylie.
Keep guessing guys Smile
Piratekombi

Alice's guess is "Missy Higgins".
Amanda

Correct!  Laughing  Now... I hope she is a good driver  Cool

Amanda.
Piratekombi

LOL! I'll let Alice know she is right!

So I guess Missy must be playing a hippie then?

I hope she has driven a kombi before, but I doubt they will get her to do any high speed driving - more likely they will do the old "film the kombi on a trailer" trick for her scenes (and use a prefessional driver for the external shots)...

How cool! - you will certainly have a great story...!
Piratekombi

Here is a plot summary for the film from IMDB (warning: contains "spoilers").... there is no mention of the cast yet, though.

It would appear that Missy Higgins is playing the role of "Annie" - and sounds like Elsie will be photographed in front of some beautiful scenery!

"The Summer of 1965 and young Willie is filled with the life of the idyllic old pearling port Broome - fishing, hanging out with his mates, and when he can, his girl Rosie. However his mother Theresa has great hopes for him and she returns him to the religious mission for further schooling. After being punished by Father Benedictus for an act of youthful rebellion, Willie runs away from the mission. Down on his luck he meets Uncle Tadpole, and together they con a couple of hippies, Annie and Slippery into taking them on the 3,000 km journey through spectacular landscape back to Broome. Back in Broome, Willie wins the girl, convinces his mother that Broome is the place he should be, and discovers that the father he never knew he had is his journeyman companion all along - Uncle Tadpole. "

Cool, I like Missy Higgins,  singalonginyourkombi tunes (is I had a proper radio that is  Embarassed
Amanda

Dont worry Diddlie... I dont have a proper radio either.. The kombi does not even have one at all and my other car only has standard radio, so no Missy CD's for me  Sad

She does have some good tunes though.

Hi Amanda...Your bus looks fantastic....Kim

wow that didnt take long, bus looks great Cool

Maybe some of us could get jobs as extras. dementia is a close cousin of what we were like in the 60's.

Good call on Missy higgins. Not into music nowdays but really like her songwriting. Very 60's/70's lyric based style to my ears. Genuine muso instead of the pop idol media hype crap.

Brookie

Great write up on movie on page 9 of today's West Australian. Even had front page leader.
Photo of Bus in all it's glory with Ernie Dingo in drivers seat- Amanda your bus will be more famous than "Little Miss Sunshine".

Amanda

I dont know Little Miss Sunshine....  Embarassed

But.... everyone go buy a copy of today's paper before it dissapears! Very Happy

I agree Brookie it is a nice write up Smile
Mustard Man

Wow,

How exciting is that!!  Well done!
Brookie

GWN TV which services (?) most of WA country is also doing feature on movie in News at 5.30 PM  with at least shots of stars and location.

Amanda

Anyone have access to GWN and could do a recording of it? Or is there a live streaming from the net I wonder.

This may help for folk that couldnt get a West.

Good Stuff Amanda, im well Jealous! Cool

Steve

Mustard Man

Wow, they really added on with that paint job didn't they.  What a great story you now have for you bus.

Will they need to keep it for all the filming?  When do you get it back?
Amanda

I get it back around the 17th of December, so they keep it pretty much for the whole duration of the filming.
Brookie

GWN had same coverage as 7- only talked about human stars and not Elsie Smile

Amanda

Piratekombi

I "fixed" the links in your post - but they didn't work! Question yet when I paste them into a new post they work.... it doesn't make any sense....

The images look great though! They have certainly done an interesting job with the paintowrk... I am looking forward to seeing Elsie on the big screen.

Well done, and thanks for the pix! Smile
