'68 Lowlight ' Bertha'Here are some photos of Bertha. She has been in the family for all of her 41 years. I'm about to start rubbing her down for a new paint job, so these are some of the all important 'before' photos. She is pretty straight with hardly any bad rust anywhere. Worst bit is under the front bumper, the rest is only slight surface rust. still plenty of work to do though, I hope I know what I'm letting myself in for. I'm just gonna be very 'Zen' about the whole process, start at one end and just keep going until it's done. Easy.........right.(Hope the pics work.

Yep, thats Charlie the sulphur crested cockatoo. She doesn't stop talking when she goes for a drive in Bertha. She's mad for it.
The exhaust is a ' monza '. When I put the new engine in the mechanic asked if I wanted to put one in as the old exhaust was stuffed. I didn't know what a monza was but it sounded awesome so I had to have one. |

Hi Big Bertha,
Your Kombi is going to present fantastic. You have got a terrific project in front of you. What colour is Bertha going to be given? I have many fond memories of Dwellingup. I used to camp there every Easter for about 10 years until the rowdies got too bad, ( back in the early 80's.) I would love to come for a drive down and visit the area again, this time in my '71 lowlight. If you are up for a visit and can brew a cuppa, give me a pm. All the best, and happy rubbing. Yep that was Bertha.
I was the dude in the wheelchair. we didn't have much time to hang around that night otherwise I would have sought you out for a chat. Was yours the blue splitty? Nice Hope you enjoyed the evening. |

Howdy. Haven't been around much lately.
I came to my bloody senses and found someone to do the resto for me. I don't know how I thought I was going to rub down the kombi and all the rest from a wheelchair. Anyway, Bertha has a new paint job, all rust and bog removed. M picking up the 1600 this Saturday. Just did a very mild touch up on It, new exhaust, oil cooler and pump, electronic ignition etc. Getting front disk brakes and 2.5 inch drop next week. Then the interior. Got some new covers and panels coming from TMI. She should be ready by Septemberish. I'll put some pics up soon. |
