Phat Bus and I have had a look at this.
Not so easy.
In my opinion it is way over priced, especially based on current prices.
Very dodgy chassis, rust in most chassis metal (all muddy)
Has had angle iron welded in for inner sills (maybe 20 years ago) and has no outer sills.
The back yard sills (angle iron) between the jack points (didn't seem to be very well attached to them either) and not full length so will need to be ripped out and new inners, outers and strengtheners on both sides (and some floor sections above too).
Have attached photos in next post to try and show this area.
Would hate to think what would have happened to anyone in that bus if it was in an accident.
Get that right and you might be able to close the rear doors because they rub on the roof and each other atm.
Has had a single door hacked into the drivers side rear. Will need a window section from a donor bus to fix and some pretty special welding skill to attach the outer skin under the gutter without making a mess.
Bare metal (well it's not bare, its a pattern of sanding marks exposing metal) was done with sandpaper on orbital sander by the looks (and the evidence of the empty packet of discs in the bus) and there is heaps of work to be done to fix up that mistake, scratches and grooves everywhere.
People should need a license before being allowed to use power tools near classic cars.
Looks like all the lights and fittings left on when the sanding job done, just gone round them because the paint is still on there.
The sad thing is it would have made a great bus left in og paint and there was no need to sand the paint or the factory primer off and now its started you will need to smooth out the hack marks in the metal.
This bus would have been worth a lot more in my opinion had "the restoration" never been attempted.
I can't see how the resto has added any value at all, weld it up before you prep for paint.
Buyer beware and get it rolled out onto the driveway so you can have a proper look.
Always seems sus to me when you park a car behind the car your trying to sell when expecting people over to look at it.
We couldn't walk down the drivers side at all because there were boxes stacked right down the entire side that left me wondering what was down there.
As it stands, $2000 tops in my opinion, well thats all I offered him before I walked away anyhow.

Dunno on what planet this would be "almost rust free" as the guy states in the add in the Quokka

Extra door hacked in on drivers side (poor baby)

yep,you are right kinga, about the ripping the paint of the way he did. now left to the eliments that attracts rust.no protection. said to his wife: why did he do this!! she said the paint was fine!!,before he went mental with a power tool. i agree: if he had left it alone, and concentrated on getting it running, and deal with rust issues later. would have attracted a few more bucks.
would have been the bargain of the century kinka, for 2k mate. looking at positives against the neg's of the old girl,i reakon 4k. but thats me. it deserves to be saved somehow. throw a sensible 10k at it,would come up pretty good for a '55.

Don't get me wrong, would love to have this bus, that's why I offered him money for it.
But, being rational, rather than emotional, its bigger than it looks.
All the front sills have rusted from the inside out as always (you can also see this from the inside of the cab floor), would be false economy not to fix it since you have to paint the whole thing now.
Otherwise your going to cry when she bubbles up in 6 months.
The doors have all got rust in the bottom too.
There is some sort of bog stuff all through the chassis and ends of the sills in the wheel arches.
I checked the main front cross member that runs left to right and put my key straight through it.
This car is a lot of work and the guy with the skills (or who pays for the work to be done) should get the reward, not the guy that devalued it.
If it didn't have the cost of a new paint job on it, then $4000.
But atm because of the hacked door and other things, I feel it can only be a rat.
Shannons doesn't even want to insure a rat for any more than $10,000 last I heard (DOTVW - WA).
If it still had paint it would have looked just like "Quazi" or "Golden Fleece" from the Melburg Luft crew.
Remember, this is WA , land of the splits.

I would love it, just not at that price.
Could buy 5 buses like the one I got from Hoodwink in (thanks for the lead on that one too btw)
Could buy 11 of like the one that from Loges that 66 Split now has.
Could buy 2 of my '67 for that, she is licensed and running with full microbus trim in good nick in the rear.
There has been 6 or 7 splits for sale over the last 3 weeks in the Quokka alone.
I will wait.
Did anyone notice the '62 Kahmann Ghia for $5000.
If I had a lazy $5000 that is where I would put it.
All the same amount of work at the end of day if your doing it properly.
