The bane of many vehicle owners including me . Low tension wiring always seems a hassle.
This link will give lots of help-clear pics and codes and covers just about every electrical circuit on your Kombi.Probably worth printing down

Speedy Jim (that's his site above) is an absolute VW electrical guru. And he answers email questions if there is something you need to understand.
If you need a complete wiring diagram for your bus or bug etc, go to this site
www.vintagebus.com and click on the "wiring diagrams" link...they even have one diagram supplied by me up there (the 62-67 Aussie bug diagram) so they MUST be good :-)
