Perhaps they don't think they are Kombis- they have become more popular overseas especially the aircooled versions.

There always seem to be one or two advertised in Quokka

You are right.  There are some out there.  I have one, a camper, that has done the best part of 240,000 km since I bought it.  It is great as it has just a little more room than a bay and handles quite well even with the locking diff.  As an '82 it is a fuel injected 2l air cooled baby.  Seems to be very reliable.

I've got one, a 1990 Sunliner camper, a few issues but nice, easy and fun to drive.  I've owned two previously in the UK and had a couple of extended holidays touring Europe, they never let me down.  So many events in my life have been defined by the T3 it's hard to imagine life without one.

I saw their popularity grow in the UK and I am surprised they don't have the same appeal to VW community in Australia.

Currently looking for another one as a bit of a project.  Looking for one a bit unique if anyone knows of anything for sale.  Anything considered.

Great forum by the way, loads of useful information.

Yeah. 83 air cooled
Nearest Ill get to having a t2 for a while while I get kids vans sorted. Alex[felix 66] put me on to one at Christmas with stuffed engine. Tidy body and interior with rnr bed. Took it straight to our mechanic[Geoff scott] and he did a reco with blueprinting. Mod heads, ceramic coated pistons ,Cam. Titanium pushrods, Usual balancing and attention to clearances. Did over fuel injection system. Like the idea of hyd lifters. Will get eletronic IGN as well, eventually.
Bedding in nicely and definately more power than standard 2L. Flexible engine.
Still other mechanicals to tinker with but for now its reliable transport.
At least I can do weekends away and kombi runs without having to pinch the kids vans Smile
Will be put on LPG as soon as he has time. Handy having the FI as it makes Dual fuel easy.
