Dave the ex Newbay 70 had similar problm but trimmer found some very similar springs.
Bill at Volkswest may have some damaged seats still with some good springs.

There is a huge difference between the splitty and a 79 bay seats Warren. You can always find springs to replace or repair the latter, but the early VW seats with the multitude of fine coil springs all inter woven to make up the spring pad is another story.  Some have tried to incorporate the furniture type coil spring like they did in Dave’s seat but it didn’t and doesn’t work all that well with the result being a lumpy and very unstable ride.
