Hey Folks
Ok, it was time I put this idea out there and got some feedback.
Late 2010 we are planning to drive from The Day of the Volkswagen (Vic) to VolksFest (S.A.) and on to The Day of the Volkswagen (W.A.).
The return leg home will be by any means (we'll be taking the train but you could fly or whatever). If we have enough vehicles we can charter a whole truck, otherwise they can go on the train.
You Westerners could fly/train (or drive I guess) to Vic first and come home with us.
I would like to make this a semi regular even (every 3 or 4 years maybe). It should be a lot of fun. It won't be cheap or quick but I am sure a lot of happy memories will be up for the making... well... memories anyway.
Anyone interested in joining us?
Anyone done the drive before?
There is a thread on KC for anyone who thinks we are crazy. _________________
This is fantastic idea.... You should get exposure on all the Austrailian sites to get as many people as possible together.
Good luck I will out of the country then so I am disapointed! _________________
Taken at Alfreds in Guildford - Remember the meeting place is the 1st Wednesday of every month from 18:30
It is a great drive especially starting in Melbourne and going via Gt. Ocean Rd to SA and up through the Coorong, Barossa etc.
The Nullabor area is fantastic and though we have done it half a dozen times there is always something to see and outback WA is great as well.

Guys, Something to look into if you're planning on putting the bus on the train for the way back. There is a height restriction on vehicles that are permitted due to the train line being electrified between the East Perth Terminal, (where the Indian Pacific loads and leaves from), and Midland. You might want to check before getting too far down the track, (pardon the pun). I think the maximum vehicle height is 1.92m or 1.95m, not really sure. But if you turn up with roof racks on a camper you've got no chance. 25,000 volts means 'one flash and you're ash'. _________________ The 'K' Factor - You know it's real!
I couldn't put my camper on the train for that reason when I went across to the east coast in 2006.
The nullarbor drive is AWESOME in a kombi, I did it solo and would do it again in a flash... I reckon this is one I'll be saving for as long as Brigit is looking pretty enough to represent WA on the east coast and in SA
My feeling is that, with the numbers already putting their hand up to come over, we will be able to charter a whole truck to transport the vehicles back east. I'll be talking with a moving company over the next month or so, nce we have a few more details ironed out.
Can someone provide an average height for a camper so I can make sure they'll fit on the trucks too?
