Hi all.... I have some questions that may be silly but i'll be the FOOL not to ask!
- i have a dual battery setup in my kombi (installed by prev. owner), do i need to alternate between batteries from time to time? Will both batteries be charging while driving? the switch is just a red tab with 2 switching positions, nothing flash.
- can my kombi handle 35+ degree heat days?
- is the the ventilation fan above the engine auto on/off? should it be on as soon as the engine is on?
-bought a portable air (850 Watts) for camping, can i run that while i drive using an inverter?
-Bessie has an electric fuel pump fitted (by prev. owner) i notice that she sometimes starts better than others. If battery is low she struggles to fire-up. any ideas?
-i'd like to buy a chrome passenger side rear view mirror, anyone selling 1?
any productive input will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!
cheers

No questions about Kombis are silly-we all had to ask and still do!
Dual system should charge both while running and automatically turn off when ignition is off. However you should check whether it may be necessary to turn off with red key.
Kombi should be able to handle 35c temps- we have driven in high 30s and low 40s.
Ventilation fan above engine is for heating system- should switch on by pulling blue knob on heater/air controls.
I don't think 850W will run on inverter while driving without discharging battery
Is there a cutout on fuel pump or does it just run once ignition is on?

i thinks the fuel pump switches off after ignition?!?!?
How about fuel type? I was told by the owner to fill her with PREMIUM and add valve savers additive.
I thought that since hi-octane fuels are less combustive under hi pressure that regular would be a better option!?!?!?!
Many run premium as it is cleaner and keeps engine a bit cooler- valve savers is a personal decision-VWs being of aluminium or magnesium casings and heads have hardened seats as standard. _________________ Kombis Keep you Younger

So it makes no difference if i use it or not? BEssie is a 1976 2.0 Auto and i'm sure it's still the original engine.

As others have said, both should charge. Mine charges the starter battery first then the second battery. Depends on the system. I have seen a simple switch arrangement that needed to be switched.

I travelled the Kimberleys towing a trailer in near 40 degree heat with no issues. Should be fine if the vehicle is well maintained.

The 850 Watt portable air will take 80 Amps+ to run depending on the cycle it is in. My alternator is a 65 Amp alternator. As others have said it will discharge the battery if you use it when traveling. Using when camped from the second battery through an inverter would take the battery down very quickly. In my case of a 120 Ah AGM battery it would be less than an hour. I had ideas once of using only an electric saucepan and kettle through an inverter off the battery but scrapped that idea when I did the calculations.
