Long time away but I have a few pictures of the Bus towing my 74 Bug with a 36 Hp engine in it for the 36 Hp Challenge.
I towed from my house in Calif. to Wendover, Ut. about 600 miles. Here we are camped in the middle of Nevada.

I drove past the race track to meet fellow racers in Ut. Here we are pulling out of the Petrol station.

When I got to the Salt I registered and tech'ed the car then went and found a nice place to camp. I drove about 1500' higher in altitude and found a Jeep trail which had everything flying off of the dash on the way up but it was worth it for the peace and quiet, and the view.

The Bus is behind this rock.

This is taken in the race grid waiting to run. I'm about  30 cars back here so the tow bar is still hooked up.

On the way home I camped off road and got stuck in very fine sand. It was the middle of the night and I had to dig out by myself. I finally aired down the tires and found some metal rain gutters to put under the tires and got myself out.

I aired down so far that I spun the tire on the rim so I had to replace the tire with the spare.

It was an experience to say the least. I have Salt fever BIG TIME now!

I ran 64.794 as a best which was way off the record. I had a brand new engine with only 20 minutes break in on it and a heavy car, but it was a great learning experience. Next year i'm going back with a bored and stroked, Okrasa head, with custom F.I and a blow through turbo in my 64 Ghia and try to get into the 1 club.

Hi Road cow,
I love the landscape, the pics are fantastic, especially the large jagged rocks.
You would love the outback in Oz, especially in RoadCow.
We have such a variety of road conditions and the distances are like you have.
May be one day...........Never say never.....
Cheer from
Ruby Dear ('71 lowlight)

Thanks kkombi! I see that you are in Perth which is where my wifes brother lives. I really want to visit some day. Roadcow probably won't make the trip with us though. My wife is a writer and when she sells one of the many books she's writing I hope that she will buy me a Bus in Oz to leave with her brother so I can camp when we visit him. Very Happy
You mst certainly have some spectacular country which someday I want to see. There's also a dry lake out there someday I want to race on.

This is the main salt lake used at the moment though there have been many

This is another link to a famous lake where races and long distance records were set early in 20th century
