While clearing up my workshop today, I stumbled upon some dye containers that reminded me of how I saved quite a few bucks a couple of years ago.

My rearlamp lenses ('71 Lowlight) had been bleached by the sun until they were actually clear. This was obviously unroadworthy and the vehicle had to go over the Police pits.

My lenses were unmarked and new ones were worth a fortune. I went to Auto One and bought small containers of red dye and amber dye. It is designed for just this use and after painting this stuff on the inside, I found that my lenses ended up like new (and completely legal) for just a few dollars.

When we had EH Shop we used to buy the dye from GM dealers as at that time it was difficult to get original tail light glass for many Holden and Ford models.. It did magic job.

Great tip! Smile

Unfortunately, in Vic they will probably fail the lights anyway if there are any "spider web" cracks, which seem to affect most older kombi taillights...  (we had to replace them on Woger, even thought they were otherwise fine)...
