I was planning to change a few things in my engine bay and I need to get my oil temps down

VWMA magazine has a article on external oil coolers but suggest that you have to change the left hand heater blower pipe in fact remove it ......hmmmmm is there any other way of adding an external oil cooler with less problems.... I really need my heater in winter.

Kombi don't need external oil coolers-they were designed like all VW aircooled engines to run in extremes from the arctic to the hottest deserts.
They will run at 130ºC without a problem as long as all tinware is fitted correctly and the foam seal is also correctly fitted and engine is clean and tinware is black as Dr.Porsche intended.

Sorry about that- only show cars that are not driven tend to run coloured tinware. Confused

You can run oil cooler anywhere if you have to. Up front and pipes coming back which also adds considerably to oil capacity.
With full flow filter any good race shop can fit oil cooler.

VWs are air and oil cooled.
