Ok had a look under the bonnet and its the Oil Breather can which has blown off and spashed oil all over the place.

I can order the part but are these easy to fit or is it a complex garage jobby?

Which engine do you have- most cars have oil breather pipes/cans that are press fit.

I have the 2.1 litre engine...

I guess it is wasseboxer engine.
Suggest you phone Kurt ar VeeDub Repairs and Spares in Fremantle- he is very good on wasserboxers and even has one turbo'd in his Beetle.
I think his father may also have T3 camper
